Florida's Queen Katherine Harris gets her public payoff

Just back from another restful vacation in Florida with brother Jeb (and close personal "friend" of Kate Harris) Bush II is back at "work". Some people said that Bush II would never appoint Katherine Harris to a position in his administration. These people argued that it would be too embarrassing for Bush II. But, who are you kidding? Bush II is a rich kid brat. He thinks he deserved the presidency, and his credo is to award the loyal for their combat duty. Call it despicable, call it lacking in any semblance of integrity, call it Bush league.

Today's Washington Post has a story saying that "Katherine Harris, the controversial secretary of state of Florida and a staunch supporter of President-elect George W. Bush, is being considered for the post of the president's special envoy for the Americas, according to sources in the White House and in both Republican and Democratic circles."

You mean Ste. Catherine is not going to be our ambassador to the Republic of Chad in Africa. I was hoping she be left hanging in Chad for 4 years.

Well I would guess that Pops is one of those "compassionate conservatives" that Dummie Dubya keeps talking about. His suggestion to stick a marble up your nose will most likely be the same thing that Dummie Dubya tells the public education system, the health care system, and so on.

No I am NOT a conservative Republican! I am an AMERICAN and a World War II vet who watched his buddy's get blown to bits in Germany. Crusty? Yes. I earned that right defending this beloved country so YUPPIES like you can spout off about crap no one cares. It really irritates me when I see people whining and carrying on about the election and how bad they have it. You idiots don't realize how damn good you have it, thanks to vets like me.

Go get a life, or better yet do something to make this one better for someone other than YOURSELF!!!!

Go POPS!!! By the way bite-judge the new President's record after he has been in office! You know in some countries people get shot for saying negative things against their President. Be glad we have the freedom to say what we want to!

Hey Pops I'm a vet too. Served in Korea. Al Gore is also a vet. He served in combat units in Vietnam. That was while your boy George was finagling his way with his Daddy's connections into the Texas Guard instead. And he was AWOL from them for almost a year too. Colin Powell said in his book that men who pulls strings like that to get out of service during a war sicken him. So why are you "Pops" and Mr Powell defending this cowardly slimeball George W Bush?

Actually, I kind of enjoyed Pop's come-back!
LOL "Go cram a marble up your nose you idiot!" I've never heard that one, and actually, thought it was alot sweeter than what he was probably thinking and could've written!

This political repartee is not cute or funny or nice anymore, if ever.
Quite frankly, it's distracting, boring and embarassing.

Oh Giinaaa....

I am just sooo thankful I won't get shot in this country for saying something negative about the President-SELECT! It is 2001 after all, and we are talking the leaders of the FREE WORLD...

But I wouldn't hold it past a Bush
CIA to ferret out dissention. Look at how they gained power.

Up to now, the USA has heen a beacon for democracy, and inspired many independence and freedom movements throughout the world. Up to now, that is.

Remember that old Christmas season story that used to appear in the newspapers every year around this time of year? There wil have to be a new one now.....In answer to a little girl's question: No, Virginia, there is no justice. Not when the highest court in the land becomes the arm of a political machine in deciding an election. There definitely is no justice when the "supreme arbiters" of our country halt a fair count of legally cast votes and then use the lack of time as a reason for finality.

No, Virginia, there is no justice in the fact that the basis the court used for its decision is a violation of the equal protection standard, while it violated such a standard itself by leaving so many ballots uncounted. How, when every state, and indeed counties within those states, have different manners of casting and counting votes, can there ever be true equality?

So I'm sorry, Virginia. When you recite the phrase "with liberty and justice for all," you are buying into a myth designed to help you sleep comfortably at night. So believe in Santa Claus, but not justice, because today in America there is justice for some, just not Al Gore and the millions who voted for him.

Dan, Dan, Dan...Al Gore never served with combat units in Nam.
He was assigned to the Stars and Stripes as a reporter.
On his 2 trips to visit combat troops, he had at least 1, sometimes 2 "escorts" (read bodyguards) to protect him from any harm.

Nothing about the 2000 election matters nearly as much as the ugly means by which it was brought to an end. The legal system is supposed to stand apart from politics and limit the consequences of political defeat. The presidency of George W. Bush may not be the republic's happiest era, but it will be endurable. What is not so easily endured is the Supreme Court's betrayal of our trust.

The conventional wisdom is that we should all forget the battle over this year's presidential election and move on. It is as if a crime had been committed in broad daylight by someone so powerful that the witnesses were told they had no alternative but to return home and be silent. We will have to move on, but what happened this year cannot be forgotten. It ought to serve as a constant reminder about how great and necessary a struggle we face to restore the integrity of our democracy.

Gore voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1969 and served two years including duty in Vietnam. Many vets give Gore points for signing up at all, since he could have sought shelter in graduate school or, arguably, used his own political clout to land a spot stateside in the National Guard such as George Bush Jr did. It was not Al Gore's fault that the Army would never have allowed then-U.S. Sen. Albert Gore's son to stray into the line of fire. Al Gore could have easily avoided the draft. Instead he enlisted and did what thousands of his less politically connected peers had to do. Isn't it odd
that those who criticize Gore's Vietnam service are willing to excuse Bush's taking full advantage of his father's political pull to get a cushy Guard post, along with that of Richard Cheney, his vice presidential running mate, who got a student deferment.

Dearest Fellow Democrats,

I say we all should relax. Neither candidate was very good, and the other guy gets the White House. But we won by losing. We get to field a GOOD candidate in 4 years, and the Republicans are stuck with Bush.

Also, one of my fears was that Bush would appoint moderates in key areas, so that in 4 years, he would have proved himself to be a moderate and would be re-elected. In fact, Bush's cabinet appointments in key areas (justice, interior and labor) are very right wing, so Bush won't be able to sell himself as a compassionate conservative next time around.

Plus, I must admit that Bush makes me smile every day. I just look at him talking and it brings some sunshine to my day. What a hoot he is! I figured once he won, the pressure would be off and he could relax, think, and say something thoughtful.

Nope.
