Florida - winter vacation
We are two seniors (non-smoking) planning our next winter vacation in Florida.
We are planning a month's stay in the Boca Raton to Fort Lauderdale area and are looking for an efficiency motel/hotel in a safe, clean area at a reasonable price range. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, jet29 |
Delray Beach is a wonderful place. Thers's a nice wide beach, shopping, entertainment, and dining. I know there are efficiencies available, I just don't have specific information for you.

There is a Residence Inn and a TownPlace Suites in Boca Raton.
There is a Residence Inn and two TownPlace Suites in Fort Lauderdale. Residence Inns also offer a full breakfast in the mornings. Both of these chains are owned by Marriott. |
We are also two (non-smoking) seniors. We winter in the Keys.
When you are able to focus on a specific area, check a website named VRBO or www.vrbo.com . They are world wide and have some very decent properties available. You will be dealing directly with the owner. |
In addition to the areas mentioned in our posting, we're also interested in accomodation suggestions for Delray Beach.

jet29, As others have mentioned, Delray Beach is delightful, more upscale than the stretch south of Boca going towards Ft. Lauderdale. Lodging prices are higher on, or walking distance to the beach. Between the AAA guide, www.tripadvisor.com and sites like Travelocity or Expedia, you should be able to find places in your price range. There is an apartment-style hotel (1 BR units with kitchenette) on the beach in Delray which is terrific. Wright by the Sea (www.wbtsea.com) is reasonably priced for being on the beach side of A1A. You can't go wrong there if the winter prices are OK for you.

There is a Sheraton Suites in Cypress Creek that is going for about $99.00 a night. Sink/micro/small refrig. in room. small balcony too, worth looking into.

Thank you for your replies so far. We're still in the market for suggestions.
BTW - how would you rate and describe the area just south of Lauderdale-By-the-Sea between Commercial, Oakland Park, Highway 1 and the Beach (A1), in as far as safety (for two seniors), amount of traffic i.e. noise, cleanliness generally, etc. etc.? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks, jet29 |
That's a very nice location, caters to a more mature crowd, with a very nice beach. There's a pier also if you like fishing or simply a nice walk. Whatever you decide on, enjoy your trip, and God Bless you!

Lots of good restaurants in that area that, depending on where you stay, you may be able to walk to. Great boardwalk along the beach too.
