florida weather in August/September
We are visiting Florida next Thursday for
2 weeks and are staying in Fort Myers -
the weather says its thundering over there
- is it like this all day -
|
Hot, humid with frequent thunderstorms. Rarely do the rains last too long, and everything dries up quickly.
|
This is prime hurricane season! Watch out for the sharks too! This not the most friendly of seasons for Florida, I lived there for 6 years. Thunderstorms are typically around 3-5PM, it shouldn't really ruin any plans as long as no hurricanes come.

I have lived in Florida all my life. Do not get freaked out by all the talk of hurricanes and sharks. I have swam in the oceans here from Jacksonville to the Keys and have only seen a shark one time. Just be careful not to swim at dusk or at night when the visibility are bad.Actually you are in greater danger of being struck by lightning in Florida than being attacked by a shark. As for the hurricanes, yes we do get some but not as a rule. I think Louisiana and the Carolinas have been hit more than us. Also if a hurricane is approaching you will have ample time to leave. While you are in Fort Myers be sure to go across the causeway to Sanibel and Captiva Islands. Didn't mean for this to be so lengthy.

It is usually sunny everyday until about 4pm and then cloudy until 7pm...sometimes it rains/thunders sometimes it doesn't. Recommend if you go golfing/outdoor activity to go in the am to early afternoon so you don't get rained out. The weathermen always say "chance of thunderstorms". It's very warm here so make sure to bring lots of cool clothes.
