Florida to NY - special places???
 

We are flying to Miami to pick up a car and drive it back to NY. We have 7 or 8 days and would very much appreciate suggestions on where to stop/eat/see etc. We are thinking 2 or 3 places that you have found special and worth spending a day or two. We particularly like inns or B&B's and charming towns. thanks

Kennedy Space Center for it's perspective on space flight and our future.

St. Augustine, FL is a wonderful town to visit for it's incredible history.

Daytona, Fl for it's beaches and speedway.

Charleston, SC for the Civil war history.

Cape Hatteras, NC for it's beauty and historical shipwrecks.

Washington, DC because it's our nation's capital and for the wonderful museums.

Philadelphia, PA for the historic Liberty Bell and the history contained there.

Gee, you only have 8 days and you need 40.

Savannah and Hatteras/Outer Banks areas sound like interesting possibilities as both are about 8 hours from our starting and ending points. We would prefer to have our longest drive at the beginning.

My wife and I would both prefer to avoid crowds (NYC satisfies that need)and family spots (we have 3 children love them all - but this is a pick up my mother's car/spend time just the two of us vacation.

Quaint and charming, and/or nice views are the key. thanks

We are thinking two nights in Savannah and three in the Outer Banks area. We would appreciate any recommendations for B&amp;Bs/Inns and good restaurants. We haven't been to either area. Ocracoke sounds like it might be a little less crowded than other areas???

Would also love to hear about any places to stop along the way to eat or sightsee. We will have three extra days during the trip. thanks

St. Augustine (America's oldest city)
is a natural stopover, very scenic and charming. It meets all your criteria.

You are probably already gone but here is my suggestion
St. Augustine
Savannah
Charleston
Williamsburg/VA Beach area take Cheasapeake Bay Bridge then to Lewes Delaware over to Cape May and up the Jersey coast.

Savannah (do the carraige tour - seems cheezy but is actually well worth it when short on time)
Charleston
Williamsburg (plan this one a bit as the property is enormous.

Washington DC - this city never ceases to amaze me at how it really makes one proud. Stay close to the mall area and head to the Smithsonians. Use a separate day to do the monuments.

I leave out St. Augustine and opt in for DC.

We absolutely love Charleston, SC. It's clean, safe and lots of great restaurants and historic homes and carriage rides. I was there early last week and we stayed at the Doubletree right by the Market and dined at Hanks next door. It was fabulous! We had lunch at Hymans the next day. We also went to the aquarium. We went to Savannah last weekend. Lots of great restaurants, too. We dined at Carpoelones (spelling?). It was good, but we did see lots on drunk people. Crime there is high. Our daughter just moved there, so we'll learn more about it. I've heard the Ghost Tours are fun and The Beat Goes On show is good.

Once you cross the Fl/Ga border if you are hungry for a quick bite, take the Brunswick exit turn right and immediately on your left is a little place we love called The Georgia Pig. Great BBQ Sandwiches.

Savannah is a great choice take the trolley ride through town get on and off as you like. Make sure to eat at Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House (family Style) very small get there early and check the website for open/Close times its located at 107 W Jones St, Savannah, GA 31401-4507.

Charleston is a great choice if you dont get to the outerbanks. A resturant in Charleston called SNOB was amazing and located on the main street.

When I would drive my mom home from winter in Florida, our favorite stops over the years were St. Augustine, Savannah, Charleston and Williamsburg
