Florida resort with teens (non Disney)
 

We are trying to plan something for spring break with our kids 17,14, & 11. Because we've waited so long, the Mexico resorts are booked so we are turning to Florida. We've done Disney and were thinking maybe St. Pete/Clearwater/Tampa area or further south.... Ft. Myers? Need recommendations for a good resort that will accomodate a family of 5. Also thoughts on which area would be best for kids this age at that time of year (late March)

You might want to check out the Tradewinds resort at St. Pete Beach. Very kid/teen friendly, several pools, and right on the beach. You can easily do a day trip to Tampa for Busch Gardens if they would be interested in that. Good luck! It is a very busy time here. :)

Thanks, I'll look in to that. What kind of temps can we expect in late March in that area. If we want to rent a car and drive south for a day, where would you suggest?

I highly recommend the Boca Raton Resort in Boca Raton or The Breakers in Palm Beach.

Both are on the east coast of Florida but you are more assured of hot beach weather.

Late March is usually gorgeous weather in the Tampa area. I would say in the 70s definitely. You might find some 80s. If you are heading south, one possibility is Sarasota which has the Ringling Museum of Art and the Circus Museum but I don't know if your kids are into that kind of thing. Also, there might be spring training games in the area all along the coast if that is an interest. What kind of activities are you look for?

If you do decide to head south to Sarasota altogether, another resort to look into is the Colony Beach and Tennis Resort on Longboat Key.

My kids do like sports so spring training is a great option. They would like beach time, sightseeing also. I realize the weather is always a uncontrollable factor so would like suggestions on how to fill the time if we hit a cold/rainy spell. Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm still open to more! Also, we will be renting a car so any day trip suggestions (within 2-3 hours from say the St. Pete area) is on option too.
