Florida Keys Spring '98

My husband and I will be travelling this spring with another couple to the Florida Keys. We are late 30's, early 40's and like beach, arts, nature, food, fun. We will have 4 nights, renting a car in and out of Miami. Any suggestions on where to stay -- we like resort type accomodations and want to see and do as much as possible while still getting some R&R. Also interested in any 2 bdrm villa/suite type accomodations that offer all the ammenities we'd get at a resort but w/ added convenience of kitchen, etc. I appreciate suggestions on anything about the Keys, it will be first visit for all 4 of us. Thanks!

Hi! We stayed in the keys a couple of years ago. We were three families all togeather (your age) and had a blast! We stayed at a condo right on the ocean, in Marathon Key (Key Colony). It turned out to be perfect. Right in the middle of the keys. Close to everything. Here are a few things not to miss. Key West, the dolphin research center (you can swim with the dolphins), the seven mile grill (the place is a dump, but the food is great), and take a ride on a snorkeling boat.
We also did a lot of fishing, ate a lot of key lime pie and took in a lot of sun. To tell you the truth tho, You really have to look for a good beach. Make sure where you are staying has a nice pool. have fun! Gary

Gary - Did you go down to Key West also? We've been thinking about going to the Keys and I'm not sure where to stay. I did get alot of info on Marathon. What time of the year did you go?

My fiance and I are going to the keys for our honeymoon in August. I have gotten A LOT of information by going to www.keywest.com There is a ton of great info. I e-mailed about 20 to 30 places and have gotten at least 15 to 20 brochures and e-mails in return. Check it out! Amie

My in laws have a condo in Marathon they rent for about $1,000 per week, sleeps about 8 people, 2 docks, full kitchen, wrap around balcony, ocean front, its just gorgeous, My husband and I go frequently. Write me if you are interested. I think Marathon is your best bet, it is centrally located and close to both Islamorada and Key West. If you stay in Islamorada try Holiday Isle 1-800-327-7070. Right on the beach. Don't miss Islamorado it's a great time. If you go on the weekend visit Ricks bar at night to see "Big Dick and the Extenders". Its somewhat of a comedy, audience interaction. Its very crowed, if you go late, you'll stand in a long line and may not get in. There' an all you can eat seafood bar at Harbor Lights also, about $20 per person. Its extrordinary seafood!! In key West don't miss Sloppy Joes. They also have a sunset festival everynight at the end of the pier. Alot of fun. Good Luck, have a great time!
