florida keys

I'll be driving to the keys in mid January 2012,I'll be spending 6 nights in total. Spending 3 nights in Key West, then either Islamorada or Key Largo. That is the question I'm putting forth .Which place would be better and why? In regards to hotel, food, and things to do?

We really enjoyed staying at the Hampton Inn on the beach in Islamorada. An Outback Steakhouse is right by it.

We spend lots of time in Key West, but my second choice would be Islamorada. Haven't stayed there but once (at the Cheeca Lodge) and that was years ago, but I just think it seems like a more interesting place than Key Largo.

We once stayed in Key Largo on our way to Key West and I was disappointed. It just did not have a topical flavor. I would choose Islamorada.

Any good restaurants in key west and islamorada you would recommend?

I was in Islamorada just 2 weeks ago. We stayed at the Islander Hotel. It was very nice... huge beach which is rare in the keys. Best part though, it is directly across US1 from Lorelai's. Lorelai's is the best place to do sunset down there. Free, live music. Food, drinks and you are sitting at a table on a white sand beach. Check it out!

In Islamorada we liked Morada Bay--you can dine right on the beach.

Did you do a board search? Here's my food trip report from Key West and some other Florida cities:

and for Key West attractions:

Donny, there are so many good places to eat in Key West that it's almost scary! Could you narrow down your preferences a little? Fine dining or casual? Waterfront? Seafood, Cuban, tapas, sandwiches? Though there are lots of great restaurants that aren't in this menu book, it'll give you an idea of the kind of things that are available.
