florida keys
This is my second posting-I don't see my other one. We are 2 families of four traveling to the keys in June and would like 2 bedroom accomodations. Has anyone heard of Tranquility Bay in Marathon? Other suggestions?
Thanks, MJ |
I toppped a recent thread for you about TB

Here is a link to the thread just in case you don't get back here for a couple of days.

Thank you for that...it was informative as we also wre thinking of staying at Hawks Cay!...We actually feel that there isn't much for kids in Key West and plan to only do a day trip there.

There is actually quit alot of things for kids to do in Key West....probably more compared to other Keys. Go to keywest.com to get an idea.

There are TONS of things for kids to do in Key West. Everything available in the other keys is available there, plus lots of additional tourist activities and great restaurants.
If your children are toddlers, Hawks Cay might be okay because they have programs for little ones, but if your children are older, I'd head to Key West. |
Thanks for your input. We won't be staying in Key West, but may do a day trip. Do you think the Lime Bay resort is too isolated?

Though I have not heard of Tranquility Bay, I have stayed at Sombrebro Resort ocean side, in Marathon (there are snorkel/dive boats available). Other than that, not much for kids entertainment. Water activity is the best, since it is June in the keys. Marathon is about 20-25 miles south of Lime Tree (never been to this place so cannot comment) http://www.limetreebayresort.com/ hope this helps |

Something I forgot to mention. Check out Banana Bay Resort also in Marathon (bay side). MM 50 http://bananabay.com/ |
HI...You don't say when you are visiting or the ages of the children.
We are regular visitors ourselves in Marathon. Marathon's best activity for children is the beach at Sombrero Beach. This is one of the nicest in the Keys. Beyond that, there is fishing, snorkeling and boat trips, sunset walks, etc. Hawks Cay, isn't far from other places that you might want to visit but you should know that it is isolated. I agree with the poster above that you are overlooking the possibilities of Key West. |
I loved Marathon. Plan a visit to the Dolphin Research Center, no matter their age they will love it. You can swim with the dolphins here or just visit the center. This is a real research center not a sea world type of environment.
We also rented kayaks and that was a lot of fun. Went snorkeling and spent a day at Bahia Honda and the beautiful natural beach. I think there are a lot of things to do in the Marathon area if they are outdoorsy type of kids. There was one thing that I didn't like at all - we spent a few hours at some sort of nature preserve/museum. I can't remember the name but there was a nature walk that gave you a glimpse of what the keys were like before they were developed. Normally I like this sort of thing but the biggest spiders I have ever seen were hanging in webs over the trail. Since I have a terrible phobia, what I thought would be fun and relaxing was actually terrifying!!! Just a word of warning. There is also a place called CocoPlum that are two and three bedroom condos in the Marathon area. I have heard good things about that but it is not a resort. There are no activites. |
