<<I assume we don't need a car on St Croix?>>

Not necessarily. Depends where your resort is located and what you want to see and do with your group during your trip (island is 28 miles long and 7 miles wide according to the attached map below).

It's a fairly large island, bigger than St. Thomas and St. John put together by quite a bit:

Tab, we took snorkel vacations for many years and buck island is by far our favorite snorkel place. On the other side of the island is fabulous scuba at the wall. My favorite dive (local) bar / restaurant anywhere is Off the Wall. We are there every day one trip when we rented a villa nearby. We always got a jeep because I like to explore. You could do without if you stay at the buccaneer. It's a good choice. We golfed there but stayed at Cheney Bay next door. Shopping is good when the cruise ships are not in town. Buy your DD the famous Cruzan hook bracelet as a gift. LOVE St Croix!

Thanks again, suze and starrs.

We'd like to avoid having a car if we can explore without one. I'll also see if daily rentals are available at the hotel.

That map gives more hotel names, so I'll check them out, too.

Starrs, Chenay Bay is good? Its price is very good.

I love Chenay Bay, but the Buccaneer is a better match for what you've been looking for.

Oh, no-- it looks like Buck Island park is British VI. which means we'd need passports? Ok for 3 out of 4 of us. Well, that isn't a show stopper. DD might be able to get hers. Thanks for the expedite link, starrs. I just don't want to put another thing on her plate right now.

I don't think it is. It's just a boat ride off the coast of the Buccaneer/ Chenay Bay. Captain Heinz is who we used to get there. I'll double check but it's a national park for the US.

It's a US National monument -

Captain Heinz is who we used - highly recommend -

Thank you, starrs!

You've been looking for a resort with beaches and restaurants and things to do without needing a car. The Buccaneer is that. I've not stayed there but I've golfed there and it's very nice.

Chaney Bay is not far away but is much smaller and is basically a collection of cottages, one small pool and one small beachfront restaurant. It's very small and compact and you park your car and walk to all of the above. It's very simple. I like it a lot but it's not what you are looking for. It does have a small beach and a pier and the sunsets are lovely and there are (were) a couple of hammocks to relax in under the trees. We stayed in a cottage overlooking the pool which overlooks the beach and everything was just steps away. A completely different feel than you are looking for. I do think you would be very happy at the Buccaneer. Read the reviews to see what recent visitors have to say.

Something completely different -

The last place we stayed on St. Croix.

On the opposite side of the island. A villa with pool, hot tub, very private, amazing views. Definitely need car to drive to beach and around. Amazing scuba at the closest beach - off the wall = vertical shelf

My favorite local dive restaurant/ bar was Off the Wall -

We ate there almost every day and they packed lunches for us to take on the catamaran to Buck Island. Locals, business people stopping for lunch and tourists all settled in for great food and drinks.

Here's the famous Cruzan hook bracelet -

Check to see if there are other resorts but I think the Buccaneer would be a great match for you. Rent a car when you want to explore a bit. Relax and enjoy and you don't need a passport.
