Florida in Sept
 

Looking for week relaxing in sun, beach in cultural part of Florida. Any suggestions? Not interested in family friendly or swinging singles scenes. Not intestested in orlando or "spring-break" town. Like great beaches, good restaurants, museums, theater etc.<BR><BR>Suggestions welcome.<BR>Thanks.

Are you looking for "historical" culture? Check out St. Augustine Beach on the Atlanta Coast. Much history, antiquing, Horse &amp; Carriages and romantic B&amp;B's.

Naples has wonderful beaches and some great restaurants. We have many galleries and a few choices for local theater. The Naples Philharmonic offers some top notch talent. You won't find much in the way of "swinging singles scenes, definately not the spring break crowd. Naples is quiet, beautiful, classy.

Now being a Florida native I can tell you you don't come to Florida to experience much "culture"! But if you insist on trying....St. Augustine is a great place for history and maybe just a little culture. The beaches are nice and clean and it should be pretty quite after the next few weeks as the kids are heading back to school in early August. St. Augustine also has several excellent restaurants, some wonderful old churches, the lighthouse, and Flagler college. Some of the more touristy attractions are a little hokey (i.e. Ripley's Believe It or Not) but you can pretty much avoid those easily. <BR> <BR>My parents love Sanibel Island but I am not sure what else there is to do there but hang out on the beach......

You may want to check out Sarasota. Don't pay attention to people who tell you there's no "culture" here. Unfortunately, our opera, ballet, and symphony seasons aren't under way in September. Most of the local theaters are pretty quiet then as well, but you will find lots of interesting things to see and do. Don't miss the Ringling Museum (free admission on Saturdays).
