Florida in June - good idea?
 

My wife and I are planing a trip to the US from 29.05. - 12.06. We`ve been to California and NY/Boston/Toronto already and now looking for relaxed holidays near the sea with warm temperatures.

As we`re from Munich, Germany with a normal climate it`s the question for us, if it is too hot in Florida in June and if it is likely to rain every day.

Maybe you have some other hints for nice vacancies in your beautiful country.

Yes, it will be hot and sometimes we have late afternoon t-storms. But it is hot all over the SE US. Maybe you should think about heading north to the Carolinas especially North Carolina for just a smidgeon less hot climate.

Don't let the idea of the afternoon thunderstorms or rain put you off about Florida. They are generally very brief. An all day rain is virtually unheard of in Florida in the summer. Those brief rains in the afternoon may actually help cool things down. That's when you go shopping at a mall, or stay in for a nap or relax, or go to an afternoon movie -- where it's really cool.
Yes it's hot, but if you're there to be on the beach, who cares -- you'll want to do your beaching in the morning hours and again late afternoon or evening -- enjoying the sunsets, which are spectacular after the rains (at least if you're on the West Coast of Florida).

Afternoon showers are common here in Fla but are short lived. Hoepfully the web site above will provide some info to help you. Everybody is different. For instance, most people in the US would not consider mid July an ideal time to go to Arizona but I have friends from the UK that LOVE the extremely hot weather in AZ in July and will be there for 2 weeks this year(this won't be their first visit in July) and wouldn't want to come any other time. Many of my friends confess summer is their favorite time of year here - the hotter the better. late May - early June won't be as hot as Aug-Sept. Come and enjoy !

Having lived in Florida for over 25 years, I believe I can say with authority that in general, the weather in late May-early June is not very hot. Even the possibility of rain showers is less during that time. However, when I say it isn't very hot, I mean that you will find high temperatures in the day to be about 85 to 90 degrees F near the coast, and a few degrees higher inland.

Perhaps I'm too acclimated to our weather and don't recognize a hot day any more. But if you are looking for warm days near the sea, you will find the Gulf coast of Florida to be pleasant and not too warm. If you spend your time in the north half of Florida, say from Tampa Bay all the way north and west along the Gulf coast, I think you will be happy. Good luck.

Of course it depends what part of Fla you are visiting. The further south the hotter it is :)

I was in Tampa area in late 05/04 and it was in the high 80s to low 90s. It did cool off in the evening though. We spent afternoons at the beach and explored in the evening. I loved Tampa and St. Petes. I've also been to Sanibel island which is nice. Sanibel is known for its seashells. I would skip the Daytona area.

For cooler temps you could look at the Outer banks or I would also look at Georgia. There are some islands off the coast of Ga that are nice (Tybee) and Savannah is a nice city to visit. I must admit I thought the people in Georgia was so friendly too.

I would also avoid Myrtle beach, South Carolina. I'm just not a fan of that area.

I think we will go to florida in June and have a little round-trip with lot of time to just relax on the beach or the pool.

I'm from the NE and have weather more similar to Germany, maybe 10 degrees higher in summer, and let me tell you Florida is really hot, especially if you don't vacation at the beach where there is at least a breeze. A native Floridian will think its cooler because its like hell in Florida in July and August.

I remember vacationing in the Ft. Lauderdale area in mid-May 2001. It was 95 degrees and it was hard to wear clothing and I was wearing breathable fabrics like linen, cotton and silk. The saving grace is that June has more rain than May and those afternoon t-storms can make it more bearable. If you do go to Ft. Lauderdale area, I'd recommend Lauderdale-by-the-Sea not far from Ft. Lauderdale, many Europeans like staying at this little beach town.
