There has been at least one other post on this in the last couple of months. You should do a search because the short answer is that while there are places, there are a lot fewer than most dog lovers would expect, especially in season (November-April), and hours may be restricted even when access is allowed. Naples, for example, prohibited dogs on the beach when we wintered there.

How do you do a search on a question like that?

The reason I am asking is that when I search pet friendly florida resorts or rentals, things come up, but then when I ask the owners if our dogs can be on beach with us, often they say no. It is hard to coordinate the two factors.

Let' s try this a different way. Can I have my pups on leash on beaches in Sarasota, Longboat Key, Siesta Key, or Marco Island? I mean legally.

Not sure about the beaches you mention, but there are two doggie beaches for unleashed dogs in SW Florida - one at Venice and one at Bonita Springs. Also, public beaches at Sanibel and Capitive welcome leashed dogs, as does Fort Myers Beach.

http://www.venicegov.com/Park_links/paw.htm - this is the Venice dog beach. I've never been there (about an hour away), but I've heard good things about it. Dogs are allowed on the causeway between Bradenton and Anna Maria Island, but it's just a very narrow beach on each side of SR 64 going out to the island. Again in Bradenton, dogs are allowed (on leash) at DeSoto National Monument and Robinson Preserve - very nice places to walk along the Manatee River as it opens onto Tampa Bay and then the Gulf. I can give you directions if you want. Public beaches on Anna Maria Island do not allow dogs.
