Float trips on the Snake river/Tetons
 

Hello,
I will be leaving on a trip in the next few weeks and would ike to do a float trip, can anyone reccommend anyone doing trips end Sept.
I have looked at Solitude rafting and also Snake river rafting.
I do not wish to do whitewater rafting on this trip.

I have also looked at HOLE HIKING TOURS, for a full day hike, as anyone any experience with these tours ?

We've taken a Barker-Ewing float trip on two occasions and werey satisfied. One of the advantages of that company is that its float trips start from different points, making it convenient. Our first time, we booked at the Jackson Lake Lodge and left from that area. This year, we booked at the Jackson office and left from that area.
Obviously, this means that we were on different parts of the river. Incidentally, we preferred this year's scenery.

We took the Dinner float trip from Jackson Lake Lodge and enjoyed it very much. You are transported to the river edge where tables are set up for steak and all the sides. After dinner you float down the river for ten miles and end just as the sun is setting behind the mountains.

Just got back from the area, we did do Whitewater Rafting with Lewis and Clark but they also offer Float trips. Can't speak to the float trip, but Lewis and Clark was great! Very friendly!

get outside - can you tell me more about your whitewater trip? What class rapids did you did? My boys like the class II trip we took in Moab. The year prior, they weren't thrilled with the class II trip we took outside Durango b/c the water was really cold. I would imagine the Snakes' water is pretty cold as well? Was your trip too rought for kids?

My husband and I just returned from the Tetons. We did a 10 mile float trip offered through the park service. It was quite sedate; the river is very low. The float trips are to be discontinued soon due to the water level, maybe within a week or two. I think it would be difficult to find whitewater at this time of year.

The trip left just south of the Lodge Hotel and was very scenic. We saw moose, elk, bisson and 4 eagles. Our guide, "Rippy", was great. He was very knowledgeable of the environment and surrounding area. All in all, it was a pleasant experience. We went at 3:30 and got back just about dusk.

LMT10 brings up a good point that I had forgotten about, specifically, that you may be out of luck altogether. The float trips usually end by the time you'll be there (even when the water level is not that low!).
General comment about the float trips: All of them cover 10-13 miles and usually last around 3 hours. Which part of the river you cruise, obviously depends on where you sign up and/or where the particular company leaves from.

The rapids ranged from 2-3 and yes, the water was very cold. We had a total blast though. The trip is an 8 mile trip that goes through the Big Kahuna, Lunchcounter, and another class III that I can't remember the name of.

However, the other posters bring up a great point. I'm not sure that there will be any ww trips offered. When we were there 9/5, I think Lewis and Clark mentioned that we were one of their last trips.

I'd call around and see what the outfitters have to say.
