Float trips on Snake River in Grand Teton NP
We (both seniors) are staying in the Colter Bay cabins the night of Sept. 19, and are reading about things to do on our first visit to Grand Teton and the Wyoming region. The Snake River float trips appear to be an easy cruise in casual dress with cameras compared to faster, wilder and wetter river rafting. Can anyone share expereinces on float trips in Grand Teton NP? Many thanks,

We did one a few years ago. It was very peaceful, quiet, calm and slow-paced. Really a lovely morning, unless you were looking for a thrill ride.

hampton54. This last June my wife and I went on a float trip with Signal Mountain Resort.(We were lodging there)www.signalmountainlodge.com We left the resort around 7:00 and returned around 11:30. It was the highlight of our trip. Breathtaking views of the Tetons, lots of wildlife, very relaxing. A nice, slow pace and the guide was informative and professional. It was around $60.00 each. I would go with them again in a heartbeat. Have fun and book ahead, ziggypop

Yes, it is not a white knuckle/whitewater float trip. When we did it with our family many years ago the guy noted we were from NC and said that this was NOT going to be a whitewater adventure like we would have at home.
We went at dusk because that is when the animals would be more likely to be at the river. VERY nice trip. |
We went with Jackson Lake Lodge because that is where we were staying and it was very nice. We first had a steak dinner on the banks of the river and then boarded the rafts. We didn't see a lot of wildlife but the pace was very confortable and pleasant.

A float trip is good any time of the day, but I think it's best in the early morning for animal sightings and just plain beautiful scenery. Just one word of caution: Dress warmly. No matter what the temperature will be later in the day, it's almost sure to be chilly early in the morning. At least, that was our experience in early September one year. We actually wore gloves at 7 a.m. and were in shorts by early afternoon!

We did a float trip and loved it. Saw lots of birds and a couple of moose. We went early in the morning. It was the highlight of our vacation.

We did it and it is very much as described. We enjoyed it despite the fact that we saw very little wildlife.

We did a morning trip with Triangle X Ranch. Our guide was very knowledgeable and we really enjoyed the time on the river.

We did an evening float with Triangle X Ranch with a chuckwagon dinner before (good meal). Easy float, nothing scary or fast, beautiful sunset behind Tetons as we floated.
