Flights Key West - Orlando
Hi,

I will be travelling in Florida and was wondering if there is a good way to get quickly from Key West to Orlando. Is there an airport in Key West ? Any serious flights there ? I do not want to travel on a small water plane or something...

Alain, yes Key West does have an airport-Pan Am Airways was started there way back when. President Truman flew down to the "Little White House" (take a tour, it is very interesting). There are some "very serious" flights down to Key West--it draws a great amount of tourists year round. It would be the quickest way to go between those two cities. I don't know if there is a direct flight though. Flying from SW OH, we have to change in Miami. Check with a travel agent, or Expedia. When I flew down last January for our daughter's surgery, it was cheaper for me to rent a car in Miami and drive the 4 hours down than to fly. What time of the year are you going? They have some big events coming up that might prevent you getting a flight, or a room. Try www.keywestcitizen.com the online edition of the newpaper or www.keywest.com for other information. Have a great time. Feel free to email me. JoAnn

Alain,

Yes there is an airport in key west. I do not think that there is any jet service though. We flew to from Orlando to Key West on continental but it goes through Miami and it was a small prop commuter plane, as are most flights from Orlando. I think Delta has a direct flight.
Alain: Delta and Continental have non-stop flights between Orlando and Key West. Check the Yahoo travel page for details on times, prices, planes. I just picked a couple of arbitrary dates (Nov. 5 to Nov. 8) and several flights are listed. Cheapest non-stop flight shown is $221 RT on Delta which takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes on an Embraer Turboprop (whatever that is). Continental uses a Beechcraft B100 "Turb" (probably turboprop). I have used Yahoo travel to book several flights this year with great success. In fact one was a flight to Key West from Ft. Myers. It was a very small plane (about 9 passengers) and I was kind of nervous. But the flight was only 45 minutes and that sure beats spending so many hours in the car when you're only going to be in Key West for a day or two. I recall that there were several larger planes at the Key West airport but I think they were coming from greater distances, for example from New York.

The Delta flight between Key West and Orlando is operated by Comair and utilizes a 30-seat turboprop. Not a jet, but not a puddle jumper either.

We flew this route last May and weren't uncomfortable at all.
