Flight time from NYC to Hawaii?
Can anyone give me the approximate amount of hours it takes to fly to Hawaii from New York City? Thanks!!!

Roni, the nonstop out of Newark takes about 11 hours. If you do a change of planes in ORD, LAX,DFW or SFO it can take 12-13 hours. An alternate is to fly to the west coast on an evening flite, get a cheap airport motel and then get on the early flight to the islands.

Yes, its a long flight, approximately 11 hours in the air and a change of planes as well. I prefer to leave NY very early in the morning, make a connection with the Delta flight that flies directly into Kahului Airport in Maui which arrives about 4 pm. This way, I can get my rental car and drive from the airport to the hotel while its still daylight, check-in, and go to bed at about 8 pm. When I wake up the following morning, I'm pretty much acclimated. Do not consider an overnight stopover on the mainland, it just delays your arrival and is a hassle (collecting bags, returning to the airport to continue flight to Hawaii, etc.)

Flight fr. Newark to Honolulu is 10+ hours, but coming home it is about an hour shorter. Best bet is to buy tickets online using cheaptickets.com. They have an office in Hawaii and so their rates are great. Got a round trip ticket in 9/99 for less than $600. I would strongly encourage the DIRECT flight with no CA stopover.

Right! Direct flight all the way. The best thing to do is just get there, and leave the 13 hours of travel time behind. I agree with the afternoon arrival time. Go to bed at 8-9pm HST and you'll feel great in the morning! Going home will be different. Get a flight that brings you back to NY in the early morning, go to bed right away, and you'll have a good handle on your jet lag. Have a fun trip!
