Flight on Short Notice?

I have to leave in the next few days for San Franciso for a funeral. Are there any suggestions on where to find the best price on airline tickets, on such short notice?

Where are you traveling from, Annie? Check Southwest and Jet Blue to Oakland and San Jose. Often fares on the low-cost carriers are cheaper than the bereavement fares offered by the major airlines. Also check Hotwire and Priceline.

Priceline or Hotwire are the only ways to really save money on last minute travel for emergencies like a funeral. We had two deaths in the family and used Priceline to save 70% off the lowest fare. The fare was still higher than 21 days in advance but allowed us to leave in 12 hours.

If you simply scroll down within the first page or two of posts, you will find two different threads on "Bereavement Fares". It would be worth taking a few minutes to read through them for a number of further ideas and comments.
I know how difficult things are at a time of personal loss, so I hesitate suggesting you go to this trouble, but I think you might find something to help you.

Thank you all. I'm flying from KC so I'll check Southwest, as well as the on-line options. And, Patrick, thank you, I'll look through those threads. Yes, I'm a bit at loose ends, so it helps to have you help me thinking clearly. Annie PS Patrick, everytime I see your name pop up, I think of the wonderful meal I had at Campiellos.

For the heck of it, I checked availability to leave tomorrow for SFO from Kansas City.
With a hotel (Larkspur Landing) and flights on Delta, it is 450.00
I tell ya... that site has some great bargains!

You could go to www.aa.com and check their fares. I just checked MCI-SFO, departing 9/4 with a return on 9/8 and it's $258, a very reasonable fare for a last minute flight.

Thanks everyone. I ended up booking 3 of us, airfare, 2 rooms, 1 car, for 3 nights for less than $1300 on site59.com

I know people get tired of me sending people to site59.com but I am just so impressed with the pricing we have personally secured.
I am glad it worked for you!
