Mama's isn't right by the airport but very close, 10 minutes or so east IIRC. It's a good choice for an evening flight out.

Steve, We're using frequent flier miles for the 5 of us next June to go from Atlanta to Honolulu. We then plan to get Aloha Air tickets to go from Honolulu to Kauai and then back to Kauai.

If you go to alohaairlines.com and sign up for the alohaPass, you will get cheaper fares for inter-island flights. For the 5 of us to fly roundtrip Oahu/Kauai, it will be $680, including all taxes.

Samsaf: Thanks for the great savings tip on Aloha Air flights. I did just what you said and registered for their fare deals pass.

I wish Island Air had the same thing. The flight from Kona to Maui is only available on Island Air, without a stopover in Honolulu.

Congrats on your great fares you got!

Hi, Steve. I checked aloha airlines, and the website show a flight from Kona to Maui. I just picked out a date in September, and it gave me several options.

Stever, I am glad you booked Delta. I would have sucked it up and flown delta. Let's face it, unless you are talking first class, all flights, no matter what time will be long and boring. On the other hand, the FS will be a nice rest when you get there. I would much rather stay in a great hotel and be a little tired on the flight. If you can't sleep, try a tylenol pm or a sleep aid just for the flight. It might help. HAve a great trip.

Hi Samsaf - unfortunately your information is incorrect. Aloha does not fly direct between the BI and Maui. Only Island Air does. All the Aloha flights fly to Honolulu first, then Maui.

Thanks girlonthego: Yeah - we try Tylenol PM's and Benedryls but we still rarely if ever sleep on a redeye flight. That's ok - the deed is done. We're doing it, so we'll just deal with it on the end of the trip. I can't wait. You're right - I'd rather spend more on nice hotels than on luxury flights (business or 1st class for instance).

Looks like you already got your ticket, so I just wanted to chime in say that I TOTALLY agree that you should use the Delta miles, so it's good that you did. I'm from Hawaii and live in DC, so I'm very used to the fact that crappy long flights are just the way of life when going home. Red eyes are the norm, and I'll be doing just that on Dec. 30th so I can arrive in BWI on noon on the 31st, all rested and ready to hit the town for New Years Eve! (Key to sleeping a red eye is waking up early the day you leave and being active - work out - so you will be tired on the flight. Then drink plenty wine & watch the movie and you'll be out in a second.)

dcmalia: Thanks for the tip! Glad we used the mileage too. We don't drink, so we'll take the other half of your advice and just stay active that last day, eat at Mama's fish house for dinner, watch the movie on flight and hopefully get a little shut eye.

Can't wait.
