Flight costs to Yellowstone NP
 

I'm trying to determine whether I should book a flight to the Yellowstone area now (for late June), or if I should wait a bit longer. I would be flying from either Richmond, Norfolk, or Washington DC. Right now prices are $500 - $600 per person across the board. Just wondering if anyone knows if this is a normal cost for a flight into Billings / Bozeman or Jackson from the mid-Atlantic. I've checked and they're all around the same price.

$500 seems pretty reasonable for that route (at least to me). I would not expect you'd be able to find flights from one secondary airport like Norfolk to another for less than $450, especially during the beginning of the high season.

Four years ago we were astonished how expensive air was from Boston to Jackson. Nothing cheaper into Bozeman or even Idaho. Only way we could have saved money was to fly into Salt Lake City - but that added essentially a day and a drive on either end of the trip - time we did not have. My guess is that you are not going to catch a deal by waiting.

It's normal. They probably won't drop.

Probably no cheaper, but you might check Idaho Falls.

I'm flying from FLL to JAC at the beginning of August.

I bought my ticket several months ago for $326. Those same flights are now coming up for just over $800.

In return for booking my flights early and at a low price, Delta somehow manages to make a change to my itinerary every time I check.

I started off with one change each way and now I have two changes each way. I've checked their web sight and they've obviously reduced the number of flights and made them more efficient (for them). Not for me.

My flight going is about the same but my return leaves earlier and gets back later.

Once they had my second flight on the return arriving later than the third flight took off.

I find that I can sometimes get their changes to work for me. When I informed them of the above snafu, I managed to also get my first flight going at a later time (much more expensive) and arrive in time for the second flight.

I just checked and there's another change but it looks identical to the way it was before. I'll have to check carefully.

You probably have already checked but you can fly into Salt Lake City, its about a 5-6 hour drive but if you have the time to make the drive you should be able to enjoy some pretty good scenery along the way. Also Southwest flies into Salt Lake so you won't have to worry about fees to check your bags.
