Flight

I'm flight to Frankfurt so I live in charlotte. I booked a flight to JFK from charlotte and that flight arrives at 6pm and my flight to Frankfurt leaves at 7:42 pm. My first flight is with American Airlines and my second flight is Delta. Can I make it in time? I have only a carry on so no checked luggage. I'll arrive to jfk on my first flight in jfk's terminal 8 and I have to go to terminal 4. Is it possible? How to get to the terminals?
Thanks

One ticket or two separate tickets?

There's a AirTrain (Tram) that links all the terminals at JFK. Trains run every three minutes and once on board it will take 7 to 10 minutes to get between Terminals 4 and 8. So figure around 15 minutes "train" time between terminals.

That's the good news. The bad news is you still have to allow time for you to deplane, exit Terminal 8, make your way to the AirTrain station/platform then once you arrive in Terminal 4 you have to clear TSA and make your way to the departure gate.

You have 1:42 to do all this but remember it takes time to deplane (depending on where you are seated anywhere from a few minutes to as much as 15 minutes and your flight to Frankfurt will begin boarding about 30 minutes prior to scheduled departure thus cutting your real "available time" down to about 1:00 to 1:15. It's doable but very risky as you don't have any wiggle room if your inbound flight is delayed or your arrival gate is "blocked" by a (late) departing aircraft. DO NOT dilly dally between flights - no time for long bathroom breaks or stops for food or snacks between flights.

I assume because you are flying AA & Delta you booked your flights as 2 separate tickets. If so, you have no recourse if you miss your Delta flight because your AA flight is delayed. If you purchased a restricted fare ticket on Delta it may cost you a bundle to rebook on a later flight. Make sure you know what later flights might be available so you can formulate a plan to get to your destination if you miss your connection.

Personally, I'd want a bit more time - say 2 to 2:30 between flights. If possible you might want to see if you can rebook one of your flight to allow more time between connecting flights.

Good luck!

Like I said when you created the same thread in the Europe forum, you could have flown directly from CLT.

Did you read any of the several responses on your other thread? They gave you lots of info/advice.

And in case you still can't find it . . . http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...t-717345-2.cfm

Somebody booked this with an agency or Expedia or some such for sure.

Since this thread is now on top, GOOD LUCK making that connection. Your CLT flight can be late and you are dealing with air traffic in TWO of the most congested airports in the country.

An hour and 42 minutes is rather a lot of time, even if the OP has to change terminals. I don't see a problem unless there is a flight delay, which can't be planned for anyway.
