Flea/Open Air/Junk Sale Type Mkts?
 

Hi, <BR>I am going to Oahu, Kauai and th Big Island in March. I love going to "flea", "open air" or "junk" type markets. <BR>I am very interested in Ming's jewelry, old fabrics and interesting "junk/collectables". <BR> <BR>Any recommendations? <BR>Which ones are worth visiting and when do they take place? <BR> <BR>Thanks a lot in advance! <BR> <BR>

On Oahu, there are flea markets at the old Kam Drive-In and at the Aloha Stadium every Saturday, Sunday & Wednesday - and most holidays. They're about 2-3 miles away from each other.

They charge you to park at the Aloha <BR>Stadium. I believe the charge is around <BR>$5. If you arrive too early, many vendors won't be set up. But later in the morning it gets very crowded. We were going to take the bus there but they were standing room only by the time they arrived in Waikiki. Alot of local frequent the flea markets.

The cost is $.50 per person (children under 10 are free) - not $5.00. I live approx. 5 miles or so from it and was just there.

The flea market at the old drive-in (near Pearlridge Mall) has more 'junk' than the Aloha Stadium market. The market at the stadium has newer stuff, t-shirts, etc. and is more of a tourist stop. Personally, being a fan of 'junk' I much prefer the Kam Drive-in flea market. The hours are the same for both markets, and the fee for both is $.50

We loved the fle market at Aloha Stadium it was a blast. A great place for all your gifts and fun Hawaiana stuff... It's big, wear comy shoes, bring water too! <BR>We didn't find a swap meet in Kauia, but there was a good farmers market for fresh fruit & veggies. well worth getting up a bit early to go to. However I can't remember exactly where it was. I am sure we saw it in a travel guide. like Fodors or Frommers. Have fun.

I couldn't find an online resource, but when you get here, do buy a paper (probably the Honolulu Advertiser) and look in the classifieds to see when the garage sales are. There have been a LOT in the Kahala area lately, which is an upscale part of town. <BR> <BR>Anyone know what day is best to look in the classifieds? I wish I could be more help on this, but I know that's the best bet for garage sales--the classifieds.
