Flea market?
Can somebody please tell me what a flea market is? It sounds awful!
It's a swap meet. Basically it is a lot of vendors with their goods set up on tables or booths. You wander around and bargain on the goods. The goods may be new or used. Think of it as a garage sale with lots of sales. It's definately an acquired taste. But, before you say you'd never shop at one, consider the Rose Bowl market. It is often packed with celebrities.

Thanks for letting me know, sounds a bit like our 'car boot sales'.
Can I ask where is the Rose Bowl market?
A Flea Market is a generic name, it is not any one specific market.

The booths are like what you would find in Camden Market in London
The so-called "Rose Bowl market" is held at the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena, California.
A flea market is where they sell fleas....
Come on Dawn....are you living under a rock? Where do you live?
She's certainly not living "under a rock", she's living in the UK where they aren't necessarily familiar with American jargon. Why should they be?
Dawn
What are "car boot sales"?
A friend of mine used to breed show dogs and went every year to a show in a place with a big sign out front: "Saturday Dog Show, Sunday Flea Market".
I'll take the bait...

A boot in the U.K. = trunk of a car
Car boot sales are when people load the trunk/boot for their car with anything they don't want & drive to a venue. They then pay a set fee & can sell the unwanted items originally from the boot of their car. Nowadays they usually have a folding table to lay the goods out on. The fee usually goes to charity it's a good fund raiser. It's amazing what people buy & sell.
