Flamingo Questions
 

I know most hotels make guests walk through the casino to get to the exit. My father has bad knees and I am trying to find a hotel that is a little easier to get around--would the flamingo fit the bill?

I've not been to a single hotel in Vegas, except the Wynn that allows guests to walk to their room from the lobby without going thru the casino area. Wynn seemed less frenetic and if you stay in the west wing of the MGM grand, you can get to the rooms a bit easier.

Try the Boardwalk - don't know if it still is a Holiday Inn. but it has big rooms, great location and a small casino with the check in desk close by.

It's an older property but you can't beat the location and convenience of not having to walk a mile to get to the elevators.

Wynn's is huge - in my personal opinion it is "overdone" .. too many colors, slightly claustrophopic in some areas too. Huge casino, lots of walking around. I attended a banquet there in Oct. and while in Vegas 2 weeks ago we went over to have a "look see" as my husband had not seen it yet. His first words were "Bellagio is much more classy". That sums it up in my opinion as well.

We stayed at the Flamingo about a year ago. My parents were with us (Mom has bad knees). There wasn't a problem with steps or stairs. However, it is a very confusing hotel to get around due to the large maze of rooms. If you go up on the wrong elevator (easy to do), the walk to your room ends up being very long (and tiring for Mom). As I recall, the carpets in the various "areas" are color-coded, so be sure to follow your color, or be prepared for a trek.

The pool area is very large, has a few steps to climb here and there, but nothing major.

We had a pool view room (around 10th floor). Parents found the music from the pool disturbing (blaring, actually, until around 10 or 11 pm). So if your father goes to bed early, perhaps that is the not side to be on. Of course, my dad had no problem. He just turned off his hearing aid. But mom couldn't sleep with that noise.

Rooms were comfy and spacious. Breakfast was so-so, overpriced IMHO for what you got. Did not have dinner there.

We also stayed at the Venetian for a couple nights. From the parking lot in back, you do not have to walk through the casino to get to the elevators up to the rooms. That was very nice indeed. Rooms were wonderful!

When you get dropped off by your taxi at the Flamingo, you go up a short escalator and you are in the hotel lobby by the front desk. About 40 feet away, across the lobby, are the elevators to the main hotel tower. There is a second tower that requires a short walk through the casino and then past a couple of shops and restaraunts. After you get to your floor in that second tower, there can be some walking to your room.

Ask for a room(s) that faces Caesars. That way you'll be in what I am calling the "main" tower, the more convenient one, and will be away from the pool. Ask for one close to the elevator, contrary to the usual request. The elevators are somewhat away from the rooms so you shouldn't be bothered by elevator noise. Be sure to ask for a high floor.

I stopped at Wynn to take a look. I did see people rolling their luggage from one end of the huge casino floor to the other end. Not across the casino floor but on a fairly wide path that bordered it.

Boardwalk is a DUMP.

Monte Carlo probably has the least amount of walking to get to the guest elevators, and it also doesn't make you go through the casino. The rooms are nice, too.

Just returned from a stay at the Flamingo. Rooms are fine, large and clean. Furniture is a bit beat up but I don't normally check for scratched furniture. Check in at the airport desk for quick check in and tell them you need a room facing Caesars. They are real close to the main entrance and the front desk.
I agree with Lori. Wynn is huge, expensive and overdone.

In any hotel ask for a room closer to the elevator - most of the strip hotels have really long corridors. If the ice machine noise is a problem, ask for a room several doors down, but not too far.

Anna74, try the Monte Carlo. We have stayed in many of the hotels on the Strip and MC has the least amount of walking from lobby to elevators. The banks to all floors are in one area, right off the lobby--you do not go thru the casino at all. Makes using valet/cabs easier also.

i found the flamingo easy to get around and much less walking then some of the other hotels. i would request a strip view room, not far from the elevators and yes, you do want to avoid those ice machines.
the monte carlo would be the next quieter hotel.
the barbary coast may be another option. it's a smaller hotel right next to the flamingo. no pool.

If you valet at the Aladdin you enter into the lobby of the hotel, and the elevators are right there as well. You never have to enter the casino at all if you valet, if you self park that is a different story because you have to enter through the shopping, then the casino. But for a couple bucks to park your car, it is well worth it!!!!!
