Flagstaff to Las Vegas
Going to my cousin's wedding in Flagstaff at the end of April. Since I have never been to this area of the country, I thought that I would come back home after spending a couple of days in Las Vegas. She gets married on a Friday night and I thought that I would leave for Las Vegas the next morning. I have reservations in Las Vegas starting Sunday night, which gives me a day and a half before I have to be there. Would it be a waste of time going through southern Utah and trying to fit in Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks considering the small amount of time I have or would I do better taking the route through Arizona with a stop at Hoover Dam staying somewhere along the highway between Flagstaff and Las vegas?

If you haven't been to the Grand Canyon you might want to take a side trip there and spend the night at the lodge there. Then head to Las Vegas Sunday morning.

Phx

It is about a six hour or less drive Flagstaff to LV. Certainly have time to visit Gr. Canyon if you have never been there. If you do this Utah is not feasible. If you don't do Gr. Canyon you could probably visit Zion on Sunday, driving to LV in the early evening.

Hi Joey!

I highly recommend riding the Grand Canyon Railway from Williams, which is just a 45 minute drive from Flagstaff. The train leaves at 10 AM so it would be an easy drive on Saturday morning. You will have about 3 hours to spend at the canyon before you reboard the train for the return. They offer a package that includes the train ride to the Grand Canyon and a nights lodging at their hotel in Williams. The train station is one of the original Santa Fe Harvey Houses and the town of Williams is quaint and interesting too, being located on the old Route 66. You can visit their web site at www.grandcanyonrailway.com for any details. The drive from Williams to LV is about 4 hours going over the Hoover Dam.

I was flying in a couple of days early and had already planned a trip to the Grand Canyan. Thanks for the train idea, I will check into it.

I would take the route through Arizona and leave the trip through Southern Utah for another time. Seems like a lot of driving time to only get a viewing of each park.
