Flagstaff-Sedona
We are going to be attending NAU graduation in May. Is it feasible to stay in Sedona and drive up to Flag for day?
Absolutely. It is only about a 45 minute drive up through Oak Creek Canyon to flagstaff.
Just be aware that if you are going to drive from Flag to Sedona after dark, it can be a somewhat harrowing drive as it is two lanes and there are steep drops on the side, no guard rails for most of the drive, and no lights. You need to go pretty slow at night and be very careful. Personally, we don't do the drive at night. It is fine during the day.
Actually, when you drive down through Oak Creek Canyon from Flag, the drop offs are on the other side of the road, so you really don't have to worry about the steep drops. Just be aware that there are no street lights on the drive.
Or just take the interstate back to Sedona if you're worried about the drive. 89A is best for the views, and if it's dark there's not so much to look at.
You don't have to worry about driving over the edge on your side going from Flag to Sedona, but if you are involved in an accident on 89A at night(as someone I know was four years ago) then you might meet up w/that edge anyway.

ok thanks for advice! what about a place to stay in Sedona? ideas on a restaurant where we could host a dinner for my niece and family?
What kind of place to stay are you looking for? Price? # of people? Amenities?
And how many people at the dinner? Budget for dinner? |
Sky Ranch Lodge is reasonable, and some of the rooms have great views.
