Flagstaff - hotels and entertainment?
Hi, I'm going to be in the States at the end of March (17th-26th) and am considering going to Flagstaff for 1 or 2 nights.
I've done some research and rather fancy staying at the Monte Vista hotel - has anyone stayed there and, if so, would you recommend it? If not, then where do you think is worthwhile? For the record, I will be travelling with a girl friend of mine, we're both 31 - where's good for the evening? We'd like to go to a bar or two, preferably with live music. And one last thing, I've been in the US before at that time of year and it coincided with Spring Break (in Savannah) - will this be the case this time? Not sure if the dates are always the same. And is Flagstaff a popular destination for students? Thanks in advance for your help (hoping I get some!!) |
Hi Tallulah, I was in Flagstaff about 5 yrs ago, so don't know how current this info is. We stayed at a Best Western motel which was fine, adequate but nothing special. The place I'd really wanted to stay (can't recall why we didn't) was Little America. (How could you resist staying in a place with a name like that? (-: ) Here's their web site:

Other stuff, can't help you with (I was with kids) BUT we did visit and enjoy the Lowell Observatory's night time show open to the public. Oh-- the Amerisuites sounded ok as a place to stay, but was right in the middle of a busy traffic intersection, as I recall. Don't personally know Monte Vista Hotel--have you checked its reviews on tripadvisor.com? Good luck and have a great trip! There are wonderful Native American village "ruins" carved into a hillside that's a short drive from Flagstaff, which I know you'd enjoy. |
Flagstaff is not a popular destination for spring break.
I have also been to Lowell's nightime open sky night where they open up their huge telescopes to the public. Really enjoyed it. It will be cold in Flagstaff, and windy. Advise dressing in layers, even in March. I have been there in June and worn a coat at night and still was cold. Don't know about bars or that hotel. But we also enjoyed the Museum of Northern AZ. in Flag. Are you doing to go down to Sedona for a day? There is good hiking right around Flag too. |
Flagstaff is home to Northern Arizona University and their Spring Break is March 20-24. If you ski, have you considered looking at Arizona Snowball in Flagstaff?

I think that most of those college kids will leave town. I imagine most of them are probably not from Flagstaff.
