Flagstaff Help

Plannig a trip in October. Anyone know anything about the Amerisuites? Is it nice? Any suggestions for any day trips other than the GC? Thanks!

I have stayed in Flagstaff and Williams. Williams is MUCH nicer!! If you insist on F-staff, bring ear plugs. The Sante Fe screams by every twenty minutes or so!!

A day trip to Sedona might be nice. The small town of Jerome is interesting, as well. We have also enjoyed the Observatory in Flagstaff.

You could spend part of a day visiting Walnut Canyon National Monument less than 10 miles east of Flagstaff jusut off I-40. FRom there go north on rt. 89 and take the loop road through Wupatki and Sunset Crater National Monuments

Rqf's suggestions are great ones. We did those same things when we were last in Arizona, but I honestly couldn't remember the particular names off-hand.
Haven't stayed at the Amerisuites in Flagstaff, but as a rule they are pretty nice. Not as deluxe as Embassy Suites, but better than a regular room.

As of right now, there aren't any tour companies running out of Flag, but there are lots of places you could explore by car.

Monument Valley
Petrified Forest
Hopi Indian Reservation
Painted Desert
Meteor Crater

Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon would be the first place you want to check out after the Grand Canyon.

I would stay in Flagstaff as it is more centrally located to the sites.

Have a great trip.

On one of the major cross streets (I recall San Francisco) there is a small hole in the wall restaurant called either Taco Palace or Tamale Palace. The food is great, homemade and the owners are charming. It's true about the train though. Jerome is an old mining town that you might find interesting. And, there are lots of little shops and an old cowboy/bar restaurant on Whisky Row in Prescott.
