flagstaff accommodations
Hello. We are 2 families planning a vacation to AZ in June. We have done most of our homework regarding driving times, stopovers etc. We will be staying 1 night in Flagstaff after a trip to the Grand Canyon and need info on lodging in Flagstaff. We are booked at Little America but have found a much cheaper rate at Embassy Suites. Any advice? And what's the deal with the train noise? Is it really that ever present?

Little America is beautiful and may be worth the extra cost. You can also try the Hilton, which is closer to the center of the city and is also very nice (from the Hilton Hotel, it is literally minutes driving time to the Lowell Observatory, where Pluto was discovered -- worth a visit).

I suggest you skip flagstaff (truck stop) and drive down the road just a little way and stay in Sedona or Prescott. Much prettier places, with lots more to see and do.

Thanks, but we are stopping in Sedona on our way to the Grand Canyon and spending 3 days there. Flagstaff is our stopover on the drive back to Phoenix. We want to break up the drive and thought it would suit our purposes. What I really want to know is how the Embassy Suites there rates in comparison to Little America where we are already booked.

We're doing your trip in April! We're also staying at the Little America, then on to the Canyon, and then down to Sedona. We did the reverse several years ago with children. Contrary to some posts, we liked Flagstaff. Planning to take the hike to the observatory.

I want to know about the train noise mentioned in Flagstaff. My family of (7) is planning a trip to the Grand Canyon in late June. We have a stop over in Flagstaff and have reservations at the Embassy Suites. Is there a better hotel? We get in to Flagstaff late in the day and leave early the next morning for GC so we are only looking for a bed to sleep in. Embassy Suites have a large breakfast buffet included in their price but if we'll be up all night with "train noise" it won't be worth it.

Just to let you know we will be in Flagstaff in March and I got the Amerisuites Hotel for a manager's special at $59. a night. Two double beds and a hide a bed two room suite. <BR>We have three teenagers so sounds great. Also they are three miles from the train tracks and say there is no noise. Continental Breakfast and indoor pool and hot tub. Have fun.
