Fishing/Bear viewing for Summer 2015
My husband and I are starting to plan a trip to Alaska in the summer of 2015. He wants to go salmon, halibut and trout fishing. I want to see brown bear feasting on the salmon. We've starting looking at advertisements in the Alaska magazines and are overwhelmed with the choices. Looks like the Kenai would be a good area for both interests. Maybe stay at a lodge for a few days fishing and then take a day trip to see bear. Or a cabin for a few days where bear frequent. We'd like some guidance. Suggestions on lodges/tour companies. Other sights to see/things to do in Kenai?
Best town/towns to base out of? Or would another area in Alaska better suit our combined interests?
Thanks for any guidance you can give us.

We spent two nights in a lodge on the Kenai Pen., right on the Kenai River, and went salmon fishing and also fly fishing for trout at a nearby lake, both with guides from the lodge which were included in the price. Wonderful.
One of the most memorable travel experiences we ever had was watching the bears catch salmon at the waterfall in Katmai National Park, the peninsula west of Kenai. We took a float plane over there from Homer for the day. It was expensive but worth every penny.
We spent two or three nights in Homer which we enjoyed too. We took a ferry over to Halibut Cove one day. We were on Alaska in July and actually went to Katmai NP on the 4th of July.

www.highadventureair.com We only did a one day fly out. Saw brown bears from a distance. Saw black bears(so many we stopped counting, same for bald eagles), they were just a few feet away from our canoe, but didn't really pay any attention to us at all. They also do multi-day tours. This was Kenai area/Soldotna.
