Fishing in Wisconsin
Need ideas for a fishing trip. Coming in from CA in July and would like a cabin at a lake; or a resort at a lake.
|
Do searches on Hayward & Minocqua, 2 towns with lots of fishing w/ cabins & resorts.
What part of the state are you most interested in? Is price an issue?
|
Susan, thanks for your suggestions. As far as what part of the state, I'm only thinking (so far) about the proximity to an airport (not more than 2 hrs.) and, price is not an issue (yet). Want to be open to many options.

Alison, you may want to fly into Minneapolis. Flying into Milwaukee or Madison is easy but 2 hours travel time does not get you near any very good fishing (except Lake Michigan). Far northern Wisconsin is beautiful and loaded with rivers and small lakes. Look at a map, figure your travel time allowance and start checking county chamber of commerce sites. They're loaded with info.

You might also consider flying into Duluth, MN. It's about a $75 add-on from Minneapolis on Northwest. From there, you have access to northwestern WI and northern MN. There are so many lakes in the area, you have an endless array of choices.

Another good option would be to take a flight into Brainerd, MN. There are a bunch of lakes there that have nice resorts - Maddens and Craguns are north of Brainerd, and to the east there is Ruttger's (great resort w/ nice cabins, a beach, a couple of pools and boat rentals) on Bay Lake, which is one of my personal favorites. (I grew up 45 minutes east of Brainerd, so I'm partial to the area.)

Check out www.brainerd.com for all kinds of info on fishing and lake resorts in the area.
