Fishing in Minnesota
 

Planning to go fishing in MN in late September. <BR>Any good areas/lakes to recommend? <BR>Were thinking of renting a cabin.

There are literally thousands of options for fishing trips, ranging from very primitive boundary water canoe trips to deep sea like excursions on Lake Superior to anything imaginable in between! Bring warm clothes.

Mille Lacs or Leech Lake are both very large lakes with a wide variety of excellent fishing. They also have a lot of resorts, so you should be able to find a cabin to rent pretty easy. <BR> <BR>Beyond that, though - Minnesota is FULL of excellent fishing lakes - the Brainerd or Alexandria or Detroit Lakes areas are all outstanding and full of resorts. Have fun! <BR>

Last year we rented a cabin in the central lakes area 30 mi. north of Brainerd, on Pelican Lake, the "Bestview Cabin at Breezy Point." It's actually inside the Breezy Point Resort. Very nice fully furnished accomodations for a group of 5. Kitchenette for cooking the day's catch or if you're not lucky that day, the Marina Restaurant serves a great walleye dinner. Cabin also has a fireplace for taking the chill out of the Minnesota Sept. nights (provide own wood though). Pelican has good northern, walleye, crappie, and perch fishing. <BR>Breezy Point Resort has ramp (or free public access up the road) & mooring facilities if you bring a boat or they rent fishing boats. We used to go to Detroit Lakes a long, long time ago. The fishing in some of the smaller lakes was wonderful---walleyed pike and crappies--find a local guide if you can, and Detroit Lakes itself was a lovely place. Have fun. <BR>

The Gunflint Trail Area near Grand Marais in Northeastern Mn. is a great fishing as well as scenery area. REally beautiful drive along North Shore Drive of Lake Superior and then a really quaint and nice small town right on Lake Superior (Grand Marais) is at the base of the Gunflint Trail. The treail goes up 60 miles into the wilderness and there are many lodges with cabins, guides, etc. Each lodge is unique and all are different. Some are very rustic while others are very modern and deluxe (such as Gunflint Lodge) and others in between. Great Fishing too!
