Fishing and bear viewing lodge
 

Does anyone have any specific recommendations for a lodge which runs both bear viewing (looking at either Katmai or Lake Clark) and fishing trips, probably for a 3 night trip in July 2023? Will be traveling with my husband and 7 year old son who loves fishing and wildlife, so trying to get him a great experiencing. It appears that many of the fishing lodges are week long which is more than we're interested in. Thanks in advance!

I cannot give any specific recommendations since this is typical for fishing lodges to offer 5-7 day packages.
My husband did a fishing trip to Soldotna about 20 years ago and our 7year old daughter and I went along. He did the all inclusive and we did an add on. Not cheap and it’s all about fishing. Kids don’t get a special rate in a boat. I had insisted we go a few days earlier to Seward and do fun stuff. It was fantastic. We also had a car, so DD and I were able to go out and about sightseeing or hiking. By the end of the week, even DH was tired of fishing

You may want to just choose lodgings then do a flyout/bear viewing for the day. When the sockeye are running, you can fly out to a lake to fish and see the bears right next to you, fishing too! We stayed on the Kenai Peninsula and did a flight seeing trip over the Harding Ice Field with Talon Air. It was fabulous. They also offer fishing fly outs and bear viewing. We flew to Katmai for a long day trip from Homer. When we landed by the beach there was a mother and her cubs walking by. We saw so many bears including those fishing for salmon in the waterfalls. Fabulous experience.
