FISHERMAN'S WHARF LODGING
 

MY HUSBAND AND I WILL BE IN SAN FRANCISCO FOR ONE NIGHT JULY 28TH. WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE NICEST HOTEL IN THAT AREA.

Do you definitely want to stay near the Wharf? That is not, in my opinion, the best area; it can be quite seedy. If I were staying for a night in SF, I'd go to Priceline (www.priceline.com) and bid on a hotel in the Union Square East section. First go to Bidding for Travel (www.biddingfortravel.com) and scroll down to the hotel section. Click on CA hotels, then on SF hotels, where you can see recent successful bids. There are some great bargains for good hotels in SF. Study the BFT site for a tutorial on how to bid on PL.

The Sheraton and Hilton Fisherman's Wahrf are both nice hotels. As an SF native, i wold have to respectfully disagree with Betsy. The epitomy of seediness and urban decay would be Union Square, not Fisherman's Wharf.

There are many nice hotels in the Wharf area. Not sure what you mean by "nicest" but a very nice hotel in that area is the Radisson Hotel at Fisherman's Wharf. You can explore the Wharf and also it is near Pier 39 which is very nice with many shops. From that area you would also be able to take a boat to Alcatraz or take a scenic bay cruise. Close to that is a very nice restaurant The Franciscian that is right on the water with a great view and good food. The cable car is also near by and you could take a cable car to the down town area (union square). There is also a Hilton in that area that I have not stayed at but I feel sure it would be a good place. If you would rather stay down town the Hotel Beresford Arms on Post and Jones is a small friendly hotel. Of course there is also the Mark Hopkins or the Fairmount that are top of the line. That area is also close to the cable car that would take you to the Wharf (perhaps for lunch) There is so much to see and experience in San Francisco and only having one night will be only a small taste but hopefully you can return. San Francisco is a beautiful city with much to explore. I lived there for 10 years. I now live 125 miles north of there but return often. What ever you do you will enjoy San Francisco. the places I have told you about you will be able to find with web sites on the internet. Hope you have a fun time no matter what you do.

The Tuscan Inn is a great boutique hotel in the Wharf area--<BR><BR>But I prefer Union Sq for the diversity of great restaurants nearby and while posters have talked about the homeless in Union Sq, we have never been bothered by them.<BR><BR>Fisherman's Wharf is way too touristy and souvineer shops for me....

The wharf isn't a bad area to stay and there are a lot of interesting things within walking distance. Yes, it is on the touristy side, but so what? As for hotels, you've received some good advice already. A couple of other properties: I actually felt the Holiday Inn Fisherman's Wharf was as nice or even a little nicer property overall than the Radisson. For higher end, another possibility is the Hyatt.

We stayed at Tuscan Inn 2 years ago. Very nice rooms, good atmosphere - just be sure you don't end up directly over car entrance on a lower floor because it can be a little noisy there.

Another vote for The Tuscan Inn. We stayed there 3 weeks ago and it was as nice as we remembered. <BR>We're staying there again the weekend of 4-26 too.<BR><BR>Got both stays thru Hotwire (the boutique hotel for the FW area when we bid) and the same with Priceline.<BR>Paid about $80 thru Hwire and $70 thru Pline.<BR>And thx for the tip Gail!<BR><BR>Good restaurant att. to it too. I've stayed at the Sheraton and the Marriot FW, and liked the Marriot much better - actually the bed we had at the Marriot was probably the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept in. The Sheraton was fine, just not as comfortable as the room we had at the Marriot. I've heard from others that the Radisson is nice as well.

I second the Marriott!! That bed WAS great!! Enjoy.
