Fisherman's Feast in Boston - Worth our time?
 

Morning,
We will be arriving in Boston August 14th. By the time we get downtown and settle into our hotel it will be late afternoon. We were thinking about attending the Fisherman's Feast that evening. It looks like a fun festival. Any thoughts one way or the other? Have you been, and did you enjoy it? Thanks Vacationmom

I live in the North End and enjoy going to the feasts. Fisherman's along with St. Anthony's over the last weekend of August are the two biggest but there is one nearly every weekend of the summer. This is a link to the feast's website and it has a schedule and photos from last year - http://www.fishermansfeast.com/ All of the feasts have booths selling food or souvenirs, games for the kids, and various bands with an area for people to dance in the evenings. Maryell, Thank you very much for the information. It looks like great fun! We are planning on eating quite a bit in the North End. Do you have any moderately priced, but good, restaurants that you would personally recommend? Locals seem to give much better information than the guide books. I have looked quit a bit on the Chowhound Message board, but get varrying opionions on what is good. We just like good food, casual atmosphere. From what I have read, I think the North End will be one of my favorite spots in Boston. We are looking forward to our visit this summer..... Thanks again, Vacationmom

Maryell may have more useful advice for you ;), but my recommendation would be to wander around and find a place that looks good to you-- in my experience it's unlikely you'll go wrong.

Doh, I agree! Some of our very best vacation meals, and memories, have been when we just decided to "pop in" somewhere and give it a try. Hopefully between popping in and recommendations, we will have some really great meals and memories in Boston. Looking forward to it immensely. Vacationmom

Ok, I'll try. ; ) A few favorites: Pagliuca's on Parmenter St. (casual and very lively), Ricardo's and Limoncello both near Paul Revere's House, Florentine Cafe on Hanover, Pizzeria Regina on Thacher St. (very casual). Loconte's on Salem is another popular choice. It's true though that you can pick just about anywhere you like the menu.
