Fisher's Island

Has anyone been there? I cannot find anything about this online, other than the ferry schedule. Was thinking of going for a long weekend to get away from NYC...

I could be wrong, but I don't think there are accomodations on Fisher's Island for tourists. The only people I know that go there are either in their own house or on a boat in the marina.

It is Fisher Island (singular) and here is the link for the hotel:

I assumed the poster was referring to the Island off the coast of NY/CT....not the one in Florida.

I don't think there are any hotels or motels. I think you need to own a home there or be invited by someone who does.

If you're looking for an island getaway, what about Shelter Island?

You probably haven't read much on it because Fisher Island is mostly residential and not a tourist spot. In fact, they probably discourage it.

Been there, done that. A good friend grew up there, along with friends "Poopy" DuPont and others... different world, if ya know what I mean...

There's one hotel/restaurant on the island - Pequot Inn. Friend reports it's not the Ritz exactly (20 years ago the NY Times called it "plebian.")

Lots of big houses, a couple of shops, a country club where people in big houses play golf and wear loud trou; you know the scene. Quite rural and scenic.

The ferry ride from New London is very pleasant.

Bring a book.

Thanks all-yeah I get the same impression, not a place to visit for a weekend exactly. No wonder I couldnt find anything to speak of about it online. We thought about Shelter Island, but do not want to deal with Long Island traffic on Memorial Day weekend. Have decided to drive to Vermont instead. Thanks for your feedback.
