Hi trippinkpj, was that the same game when the fellow from Roseville jumped on the dividing wall and fell and died? Such a tragedy.

trippinkpj Dec 14th, 2007 11:44 AM

I didn't see or hear about that, LoveItaly. That's very sad. :-(

LoveItaly Dec 14th, 2007 12:01 PM

I am glad you didn't trippinkpj, I don't envy those that did. One of those senseless deaths. I don't know if to much drinking was involved or not but it rather sounded like it was a possibility. Very sad and tragic.

okkuriwin - thanks again for the head's up on this restaurant. There was an article about it in today's Chronicle.

Back home: It didn't take long for former Fifth Floor chefs Charlie Kleinman and Jake Des Voignes to rebound. The duo has taken over the chef duties at San Francisco's Fish & Farm (339 Taylor St.), which opened in October.

The two left the vaunted Fifth Floor (12 Fourth St., in the Hotel Palomar) two months ago feeling a bit dissed by their managers, the Kimpton Group.

They complained that they weren't given their due after maintaining the restaurant's Michelin star rating for the second year. Plus, with the restaurant shifting in a new direction - Aqua's Laurent Manrique has been hired to revamp things - Kleinman and Des Voignes embarked on a cross-country road trip.

Now they're back, and as of Monday replaced Michael Morrison at Fish & Farm. Morrison, according to restaurant co-owner Frank Klein, wanted to spend time with his new baby and to explore the possibility of making his own charcuterie shop.

Starting next month, Kleinman and Des Voignes will make some changes to the menu, including adding more local ingredients. They'll also be opening the "fish bowl," a lounge for walk-in diners, with its own menu.

I saw the SF Chronicle article also and of course thought of this thread Stu. Sounds like a great place to check out. If you happen to go there please let us know how you liked it.

SAB Dec 20th, 2007 10:22 AM

I just read that it is going to only charge $5 corkage, which is great for those who like to take their own special wine. I would also like to thank okkuriwin for bring this restaurant to our attention--the law of unintended consequences seems to be in full effect!!!

dmlove Dec 20th, 2007 10:28 AM

I plan on trying it myself, soon :)

KTtravel Dec 20th, 2007 11:28 AM

I have often seen a sign in bars and restaurants saying something to the effect of "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone."

I hope the friend that caused this unpleasantness to occur has apologized to you, okkuriwin, and to your friends. It appears to me that he is the one who should explain his behavior to you, not the restaurant manager.

StuDudley Dec 20th, 2007 11:58 AM

$5 corkage - wow - I'm on my way!!!!!

SAB Dec 20th, 2007 12:15 PM

Here you go Stu:

"Corkage is $5 per 750 ml bottle California wine. All others $10 —waived with a 750 ml. bottle purchase Limit of two bottles personal wine per table"

Note you can also bring two bottles!!!

LoveItaly Dec 20th, 2007 02:03 PM

Wow SAB, that is quite a bargain!
Very generous, especially for a SF restaurant!

Yes okkuriwin, thank you very much for bringing this wonderful and customer friendly restaurant to our attention. It was quite kind of you!

I just made our reservations for Fish & Farm - 1/5/08.

Others should try to get there before Michael Bauer writes about it in the Chron.

I hope they participate in the annual Dine About Town event. DAT always adds a little sparkle to an otherwise slow winter month (January). For me, it's a great way to try out future business/social dining spots at lesser cost.

StuDudley Dec 21st, 2007 10:43 AM

They are not participating. I checked the list of participants before reserving at Fish & Farm.
