first trip to sonoma
Considering our first visit to wine country in the spring, looking for a cozy inn/accomodation in the mid price range in Sonoma area.
Has anyone stayed at the Thistle Dew Inn? Any other inn suggestions would be appreciated Would also like some recommendations for the Monterrey,Carmel area . |
Hi francine! You may want to try www.winecountry.com and check the rates there. I haven't stayed at the Thistle Dew Inn, maybe someone who has could help you with that. We enjoy The Sonoma Mission Inn, www.sonomamissioninn.com It's a beautiful property with two restaurants (I'm going for the lemon cottage cheese pancakes at the Big 3 Diner!) a very nice mineral pool, on-site spa and watsu pool. :)
In Carmel, you may want to check out the Tickle Pink Inn, Travel Zoo is offering rooms there starting at $189/night which is an excellent price for this property. We stayed there in September and really enjoyed it. ((f)) We have also had many wonderful stays at the Highland's Inn, right next door to TPI. If you ant to be a bit closer to downtown Carmel, check out the inns of Carmel @ www.carmelinns.com ((f)) You may also want to check out some of the gorgeous B&B's in Pacific Grove. In Monterey, I love the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa. www.woodsidehotels.com If you would like suggestions for dining, feel free to ask! :D This trip we will be trying the Harmony Club @ the Ledson Hotel and The Farmhouse Inn. ***kim*** ((l)) |
Hi francine!
You will find Spring here quite lovely! The hills are still green from the winter rains and the wildflowers are beginning to bloom. Friends who visit us and the county have truly enjoyed the Thistle Dew. It is well regarded by locals, as well. If you are looking for a >>>cozy inn accomodation in the mid price range<<< this might be the thing. Give a look at the Beltane Ranch over in Glen Ellen ,as well. You might want to ask kim for clarification how the Sonoma Mission Inn is "in the mid-price range" Their website shows $279 for the least expensive room !!!! (Perhaps she has a special dicount code or website she can share with you.) Nor, do I think this large zoo of a place is "cozy"-well, the rooms are pretty small. Just my experience. Also, it's not in a great location (neighborhood wise) and you wouldn't want to walk at night- you would need a car to get to resturants around the town square. R5 PS Kim-I'm going to look at that Travel Zoo offer on the Tickle Pink, but I presume it's for a fairly standard room ? |
TP-$189/7 days through 3/31
Where is my calendar ? R5 |
OK-I see it on winecountry.com
SMI/$169-wonder why they are offering $110 of their rooms ?!?!? Gosh, I hope they are still not doing construction ! francine: I saw the Camellia Inn in Healdsburg on there as well, it would be nice if you could get a "mid-range"rate. Back in Sonoma town-on the winecountry site I saw Inn at Sonoma-it's a Four Sisters Inn-if you can get it for $125 it's worth considering ! Decisions,decisions.... R5 |
Thanks ladies for your infput,I consider mid price range to be approximately 180-230, liked the sound of Thistle Dew till I read the newer review on the hotel section of this site, sounded like it had gond downhill. My friend had stayed at one of The Four Sisters Inns and liked it, anyone been to any of those. Thanks again!!

The Inn @ Sonoma is right next door to a real estate office if that bothers you at all. I'm sure the property is nice, tho. :D
I don't care for the location of the Lodge @ Sonoma, either. Granted, the SMI is in a bit of a "seedy" area of Sonoma, but once you're on that gorgeous property (actually more like an estate) you forget all about it! We don't mind driving a bit to dinner or lunch. I'm really looking forward to our stay there. It's one of my favorite places to stay in our beautiful state! ***kim*** ((l)) ((f)) ((l)) |
We enjoyed the Inn at Sonoma. It is on a main street, set back a bit. It is wihtin an easy walk of shops and restaurants. They serve a great breakfast buffet. In the early evening, they put out delicious appetizers and serve local wines. Room was nice - not a huge room but it did have a fireplace. It was at the back of the building overlooking tthe roof of a day care center. I think it had a small balcony which we never used. I would ask for a room facing the street.
