First Trip to NYC

My husband and I are going to NYC for the first time arriving 7/3 (JFK airport), and leaving 7/7. Since we have only a few days to sightsee, . We are staying at the Millennium Broadway on 44th St. and have tickets for two broadway shows.

Any suggestions on restaurants and what to see in a short period of time?

Thanks!

Lucy, use the search button above and type in the word NYC. You'll get so many ideas your head will spin!

Before you can get any solid advice, it would help if you'd tell us what interests you. And, as far as restaurants--and there thousands of them in NYC--what price range and type(s) of food?

I'm sorry I was so vague in my first message. We are arriving in NYC at 12:30 p.m. on 7/3, and leaving on 7/7 at 3:30 p.m. We are staying at the Millennium Hotel on 44th St. We are going to broadway shows on Friday & Sat. afternoon/early evening.

Things we'd like to see do: Bus Tour, Ground Zero, some of the nearby neighborhoods (China Town, Little Italy, Soho etc.), Macy's. Can anyone tell me if I can fit this much in such a short time?

Any suggestions on restaurants in that vicinity?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Lucy-
I would think if you break down your list into neighborhoods and try to see as much as you can in each neighborhood, you might manage most of what is on your list in 4 days.
This will also bring this to the top so others will maybe contribute
See ya in July~

Empire State Building (at night). Chinatown. Central Park (FAO Schwartz store nearby). And just walk up/down 5th Avenue.

Dinner in Chinatown and dessert in Little Italy. Ellis Island. Brunch at Ratners and touring the Tenement Museum on the Lower East Side. The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim. Buying jewelry on 47th St. between 5th and 6th Aves. We like the elegant, but moderately priced, Indian restaurant, Shaan, which is not far from the theater district, and the Zen Palate Oriental vegetarian in the theater district and on the upper West Side.

lucy,

Get the 1st ferry of the day to Liberty Island--continue on to Ellis Island, then back to Battery Park, short walk to Ground Zero, then walk east to Fulton St and seaport, then north to Chinatown--as Abrams says in previous message dinner in Chinatown (Shangai Cuisine on Bayard)dessert right across Canal in Little Italy (Ferrara) On north to nightlife in Soho & Village. Can do in one day if you have good shoes.

Close to your hotel, 46th bet 8th & 9th, Becco, great Italian restaurant. A la carte, but also $21 unlimited 3 pastas of the day--a steal.

I would recommend a grayline doubledecker bus tour. For a first time visit to The City, the Lower Manhattan Loop is the best. You can also buy the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island tickets at the same time. I would not advise getting off th boat at the Statue of Liberty, as you can't go inside that Statue anymore. Instead I would spend your time at Ellis Island as there is so much to see there. Plan on about 3 hours there.

For excellent Italian food I like IL Cortile in Little Italy on Mulberry Street.
