First trip to Los Angeles for a movie premier in June. Any advise on hotel?

I'm planning on taking my 15 year old daughter to LA in June for a movie premier. I know we won't actually be able to get into the premier, but she just wants to be there. I'd love any advice as to where to stay. I've never been to LA before and am clueless about the city. I plan on buying guide books. Would love any advise.

First bit of advice: Which movie? Where and when will the première be held? Why are you sure you won't be able to get into the première? A lot can happen between now and June; if the movie is actually scheduled for some big Première Bash of some kind, there are multiple ways to try and get tickets (social media connected to the film, radio contests, etc.-- that's how I got into the première of Titanic back in the day).

But you should know: "Los Angeles" is not one city, but over a hundred, spread out over a vast metro area encompassing two counties and an island 20-something miles off the coast (depending on the port and the song you're humming). I've seen premières in Hollywood over the years, as well as in Westwood and Santa Monica, all separated by many miles. I'd start by finding out where the event will be (even more basic, IF there will be a première), before anything else. I don't know that any of us will suggest a hotel before that basic information is known. And what if the film's opening day is delayed? It does happen, after all; even if the film's in the can, if it tests badly with preview audiences the makers have the option to tweak it (or re-edit, or shoot new scenes, or completely recast it-- as Woody Allen did for his famous flop September). Nothing's a sure thing in the film industry....

It will be "The Fault In Our Stars". Right now I can't find out any info as to where. My daughter just wants a chance to get a peak at the stars and the author of the book. She loves the book. I am just in the beginning stages of trying to get some ideas as to where to stay and any other info.

You are right, I guess I have to sit tight until I find out more.

The release date for the movie is currently listed as June 6, 2014. Premieres are sometimes about a week before. Perhaps at the Nokia Theatre, or in Hollywood, or even in Westwood. Out-of-town premieres are not uncommon either.

Thanks clarkgriwold!!! If anybody hears anything, let me know. I will do my research! I have always wanted to visit Hollywood and the area! I'm hoping to take a couple extra days to do other things besides this. My daughter actually talked about the Hunger Games/ Mockingjay premier which is set to release in November, but she thought she would get a better chance of seeing the stars with this release.

I used to live in LA for many years and worked in Hollywood, so I would think you couldn't beat the Roosevelt in Hollywood if you want to go that route. It's a classic, very well-known, and convenient to that area and near a metro stop, actually. But you're talking about around $300 a night for a double, most likely.

If you want something cheaper, I've sent friends to the Elan Hotel near the Beverly Center, and they liked it a lot. http://www.elanhotel.com/
That's near La Cienega and not far from Hollywood and Beverly Hills, the Farmers Market on Fairfax (and near CBS studios). It's a pretty central location, actually, also not far from Westwood.

There are plenty of hotels on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood or W Hollywood, say on Santa Monica Blvd. Loews on North Highland would also be a pretty safe bet in Hollywood.

What exactly is your budget, anyway. I'm not quite clear on the goal about the movie premiere, if you want to be around it to watch people arrive or what. If so, you might want to stay near it, if in Westwood or Hollywood.

My budget is around $150. Yes we would like to be able to watch the people arrive.

Also, what's the public transportation like? Can you get around fairly easily? I would not be renting a car, which from reading other posts is not the best way to go. So I would need to be very near transportation to take us to and from the airport.

Orchid Suites or hotelcelebrity are often recommended in Hollywood and are right around the corner from the theatres. If the premiere ends up being downtown at the Nokia it's just a 20 min ride on the metro subway. If the premiere is in Westwood it's about 25 mins on the bus...(but a nice ride down the sunset strip and into Beverly Hills.) If the premiere ends up in Pittsburgh you're out of luck.

Public transportation to Hollywood is easy, but it takes over an hour. Just outside baggage claim the "Flyaway" coach will take you to Union Station for $8 or so, then you hop the redline subway up to Hollywood/Highland Station and walk a couple of blocks to your hotel.

Perfect! Thanks for those suggestions!
