First times New Orleans and Planations
I've read some of the messages on New Orleans. I am thinking of holding down cost on hotel and booking a suite at Le Richelieu. Is my choise ok(clean, french quarter and nice. Also how do you feel about checking out Planations? Are they worth
while. Dinner at Commanders Palace and Emerils, Bayona or Bella Luna. Also which Cemetarie should I go to? Thanks for all your help. I just love it that we can go to locals and find the real scoop.

Commander's Palace is arguably the best restuarant in N.O.
I would not miss the plantations, easy to get to and a real highlight of our trip. It is quite a thrill to be visiting a plantation, hear a steamboat whistle, walk to the levee and see a steamboat pulled up.

If you'll take the recommendations of a non-local, if you have time for only one plantation, I recommend Oak Alley.
For restaurants, I'd say Emerils and Commander's Palace.

YES!! Do the mansions on river road drive up and spensd the night somewhere along the way up river road to dsee them all. Then return to NO, a great city, so much fun.

We stayed at the Nottoway Plantation. The stay was inexpensive and included a sweet potato muffin in the morning and breakfast also. We enjoyed this place because it was so unchanged by time and real. This was partly due to the written history of the place(and lack of damage by various sources). We really did feel Oak Alley looked kind of(Disney-like) touristy. They are equipped for parties and weddings which alters the feel of the place. We also are aware that there needs to be income to keep these beautiful places up. We stopped at Oak Alley for lunch(not a reccomendation) and were not inclined to take the tour.
The other plantation that sounded interesting to me was Madeway. I would like see it if we return.

We stayed at Toscucos's Plantation and at at Lafittes Landing in Donalsonville. Both are great places.
Alice
http://www.geocities.com/nola_rental/oldnola.html
