First time visit to Los Angeles
 

My daughter is doing an internship in Los Angeles and my husband and 16 year old son are planning to visit her. It is our first time there and would like some suggestions and where to go and what to see.

Do a little research on your own...there are dozens of posts relating to Los Angeles. After you read through them, then ask specifics and you'll get much better responses! Right now, your question is kinda vague.

Not sure where you are from, but be aware that LA is a little different from most major US cities. Most seem to have a very dynamic and active downtown center with a lot of "communities" radiating out from that center. LA has little to offer in its downtown (I think that's why it often gets a bad rap from conventioneers and visitors). But each individual community around it has its own center and its own feel. Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Pasadena, Santa Monica, and so on could each easily survive on their own as a separate city. You need to do a little research as suggested above and try to decide which LA you think you would be most interested in -- perhaps relating it most to where your daughter is living.

I highly recommend Griffith Park. It has lots of hiking trails and horseback riding and nice views of the city, plus the Griffith Park Observatory. <BR> <BR>Not "touristy" at all, but I really enjoyed the town of Manhattan Beach. It is just south of LAX -- a really nice, wide huge beach with volleyball nets and lots of families relaxing, walking distance to shops and restaurants -- a nice community feeling there.

Where is your daughter's internship? <BR>LA is a big place. <BR> <BR>Some suggestions: <BR> <BR>The Getty: if your daughter has a student ID you don't need parking reservations. Incredible views of the city. <BR> <BR>Farmer's Market at Fairfax and Third: go for lunch. Many star sightings and old LA at its best. <BR> <BR>Laker tickets: enough said. <BR> <BR>Santa Monica Beach: rent bikes or skates. <BR> <BR>
