First time trip...any Maui condo recommendations?
 

We generally travel to Grand Cayman each spring with our family as a type of family get away [family = 5 adults]. Due to this years hurricane season, and the destruction there, we have decided to go to Maui instead.

We [Dad and Mom] generally pay for the condo, the kids have to get themselves there [kids = grown children]. We are looking for a condo not too far from the ocean, perhaps in the Wailea, Kihea, or Ka'anapali areas. We'd like to save as much money as we can, and still get nice clean accomodation. We don't spend a lot of time at the condo's, just a place to lay our heads, and grab a good breakfast or make a sandwich. 3 bedroom would be nice, 2 bedroom with a pull out would nice.

4 of will be there for 2 weeks, one of for one week.

Also, we generally start looking for airfare 90 days out from our trip [we'll be traveling in mid-April. Is this still a good plan? Book flight on-line or through agent? Which is better?

Any direction or guidance we can get would be very much appreciated.

We rent the sixth floor of the Maui Kai Condo which is a one bedroom unit and a studio unit connected thru the lanai.
Its affordable, around $300 a night.
The one bedroom unit has a bath, kitchen and large living room with a pull out. The studio has a bathroom, a kitchenette and a queen size bed plus a table and chairs. Both are oceanfront, literally on the water. The Maui Kai also has a two bedroom unit on the first floor but we never stayed there. Its a quiet building with a nice pool area, cabana and bbq's for grilling. In fact there is a complete kitchen equipped with dishes, pots, etc in the cabana for use by guests. We had a party of 14 in August and used the cabana a lot in the evenings. It was a great place to congregrate without crowding in one person's living room. Another option would be to rent individual studios or one-bedrooms at the MAui KAi so everyone has a little more space. Check out their website at www.mauikai.com

We stayed at the Kihei Surfside July 2003 and we loved it. It's on the oceanside, every unit has a great view of the ocean, and it's just a stumble through the parking lot to wonderful Keawakapu Beach (which the Mana Kai condos sit on).
