First Time to New York Report

Well, first of all..this was our first trip to the U.S. in over 10 years..We have travelled overseas (from Canada)for several years now and decided it was time to see some of North America..So we booked 4 nights to New York and 2 nights to Montreal.

To start..we flew into LGA..We took a taxi (stood in line) and quickly arrived to the Michelangelo Hotel..We were upgraded to a Suite, so at the average price of $220.00 per night on Memorial Day Weekend, it was a steal of a deal!! We loved the hotel.

Great location...Great comfort in a very relaxing and friendsly atmosphere.

We found the New Yorkers to be totally friendly.

First day we took the hop on hop off (on a Friday)..It was great and we saw all the sites we wanted to..The weather was beautiful with not a cloud in the sky.

When we got off at Canal Street, we walked to Jing Fong and had Dim Sum..It was really good, and only $17.00..which we later found was totally cheap compared to anywhere else we ate!!

Next day we did the Foods of New York Tour..The SoHo Greenwich Village tour..It was awesome..We really loved the food and the area of the city. Great Indian Food..Jamaican, etc.

We had dinner at Utzav (sp??) an Indian Restaurant.a 10 minute walk from the hotel. It was quite pricy i thought for 100.00..but we really enjoyed it.

We ate twice at TGIF's (i know.. probably not the best choice, but the location was convenient, and being Memorial Day weekend, it was impossible to get into any restaurants.

Sunday we got up and there was a street market on 7th Ave, and we walked our way up to Central Park..where we met friends, and had brunch at the Tavern on the Green..It was really good...loved Central Park.

After that we went to the Rockefeller Plaza and went up to the Top of the Rock for a view of NYC, it was awesome..Had drinks outside at the lounge.

One night, we ate at the Pearl's Chinese Restaurant..it was alright..nothing specaial, but we were enjoying NY so much that it really didn't matter.

Also had a few hot dogs on the street!! They were yummy as well.

Loved the lights...in the evening..There is alot of energy in that city...and it was crowded...almost as crowded as Hong Kong.

Our last day we got up really early and went to the Today Show..We were hoping to see Maroon 5...but by the time they came out, we had to leave as we had to catch our flight..but it was still exciting just to be there.

Found the Ground Zero site to be really emotional, but glad we went..

Took the ferry to Ellis Island for views of the Statue of Liberty..It was cool, but it seemed alot smaller than what we were expecting.

Loved New York..but it is very expensive..

Didn't have time for any Broadway plays, maybe another time.

Hope i covered everything...

Oh ya...Shopped at Macy's...it was a zoo!!

And yes..just had to visit the M & M store..it was so cute...Bought all the kids i know something!!!

The Foods of New York tour, was just good fun and walking and eating at some ethnic restaurants in the SoHo and Greenwich Village..We all met at a Restaurant (about 12 of us i think) and then we walked around with the guide..Went to some really cool, small eateries..Italian, Jamaican, Indian, Greek and a Middle Eastern and had small samples at each..It was alot of fun walking through the area...Also stopped at some little night clubs. And through Washington Square Park..

It was a really nice afternoon, from about 12:00 til 3:00..We really enjoyed it!!

Do you think that the food tour that you did would be appropriate/fun, etc. for 10 year old girls who like to eat?

I'm not sure this tour would be for 10 year olds...They might get bored after the first hour..But i guess it depends on the type of kids they are!!! I don't know, i don't have kids..
