First time to New Orleans - need suggestions!
I am going for a quick weekend getaway to New Orleans with my boyfriend this weekend. We have never been there, and need suggestions for moderate-priced hotel within walking distance of good restaurants, bars, etc., as well as restaurant suggestions, and any other "Must-do's". I assume the French Quarter is the place to be, but that is as far as I've gotten in making plans. HELP!

Forget about it, Becca. This weekend is Jazz Fest. If you're not already booked, "moderately priced" is out of the question.

Debbie is correct, I'm afraid. The best you can hope for is to find cancellations or unsold hotel rooms that hotels are willing to let go at a cheaper rate. The city is packed during the Jazz Fest.

For some of the best restaurants, try to reserve asap: peristyle 504(AC)-593-9535; gabrielle 948-6233; bayona 525-4455; and a new one owned by bayona, cobalt on st, charles av. but I do not have the tel. number. And of course, brennans at 417 royal st. for breakfast one morning. Have a good trip.

I suggest you stay home.
New Orleans is a slum.

Very helpful, Mark.

The French Quarter is the place to be, as you say, but don't forget the Garden District, Warehouse District, Faubourg Marigny and City Park areas either. (Jazz fest is near City Park) It's a wonderful place to visit!

I agree Mark, now lets see how long our comments stay on the forum!
