First time to las vegas not a big gambler

Las Vegas is always busy, it seems to me, but more so on weekends and any holiday long weekend. Danny Gans is the best show in Las Vegas (IMHO) not that I've seen tons of them, but several. He is hard to get tickets to but if you call now (Mirage) and find out the earliest you can book it, then call back then you might get in. Just visiting the different casinos (not to gamble but to look) is something I like. There is just so much to see there. A visit to the Hoover Dam is nice if you haven't been (if you are renting a car). There are web sites about Las Vegas that tell all the entertainment going on during the different months.

for a convention schedule. It is VERY important that you not be in Vegas during a major convention, or you'll be LUCKY to find a flea-infested bed for $200.
I've been to Vegas many times and have always enjoyed just wandering from casino to casino, just checking out the hype and noise. There are free shows outside many casinos (volcanoes, pirate attacks, light displays), so just wander around outside as well.

hi george,
for good, moderate hotels you might want to stay in downtown...the rates are slightly cheaper than the strip, aside from maybe excalibur and circus circus. the meals can be less expensive, and the gambling minimum is far less, especially late at night. on my first trip there we met some dealers who were slow and happy to teach us the table games. i've stayed at the main street station, which is only a short walk to fremont street which had decent rooms and one of the best buffet in downtown. the 4 queens is also a good basic hotel to stay.
as for activities, my sister always insists on going out to red rock canyon if not the 4-hr drive to the grand canyon. can also visit the valley of fire which is about an hour drive away. if you like loud music check out splash! or see a magic show. haven't seen too many shows, we like to see the different hotels instead, since it seems like there's always a new one.

We always get the local newspapers and look for restaruant coupons and other 'deals.' We always enjoy a drive to Mt. Charleston, and Valley of Fire, Lake Mead, and Red Rock Canyon area...you can usually fine some burros and feed them carrots..but be careful of them, too! If you have a car and the time, drive out to Death Valley, even if it is just to drive the are. Try and save time to see Scotty's castle on the north end of Death Valley. Just wander the casinos and be a people watcher!

My husband and I went to Vegas last June and had a wonderful time. Neither one of us are gamblers. We stayed in Vegas for eight days and not once did I slip a coin in a machine.
I had an itinterary planned. We did something everyday. We had twelve hour days. It was fantastic.
We went to the Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, Tour of Vegas, we took in a show, we toured Red Rock Canyon, we went to practically every hotel on the strip. We saw a free show in Caesar's Palace called the Atlantis. We went on the Race to Atlantis Ride. We went to treasure island, didn't get to see the show.
We went to the Paris Hotel and took an eifel tower ride. We saw the water fountain show at Bellagio.
We shopped of course. Every one of our days were full.
Have a wonderful time.
P.S. We are not wealthy either

George- Coupons, Coupons, Coupons... Every hotel and casino has discount coupon books and sheets... included are some excellent free shows or money off show coupon discounts... you may have to buy two drinks in exchange for the tickets, but there are over a hundred shows in LV fighting just to get you in their door for gambling before or after the show. Try Westward Ho for their comedy revue show, giant, I mean GIANT 75 cent hot dog and 99 cent Margheritas... have fun!
