First time to Kauai

Looking for any help. I saw a couple of package deals for around 700. per person.
One at the Sheraton Kauai Resort, Poipu the other at the Aston Aloha Beach Hotel, Wailua. Are there good locations? I am leaving from LAX. Any other ideas? I probably will also need a car rental.
Thanks

What do the package deals include? Airfare? Rental car? What is the room category at the Sheraton? Probably garden view, which aren't the best rooms as they are not on the ocean side and unless they've been remodeled lately, tend to be a little long in the tooth.

I am not familiar with the Aston, but the Sheraton is an okay hotel in a fantastic location on a great part of the Poipu Beach area.

My husband & I went to Kauai May 5-12, 2007. We stayed 4 nights in Princeville, which is the North Shore, at the Sealodge Condos. We stayed in the D7 unit. The Sealodge is situated on a bluff so you are looking out at the ocean. It was absolutely beautiful and we loved the North Shore! We felt "secluded" on the North Shore, in a good way, as opposed to the "busier" South Shore.

Here are a few websites for the Sealodge:
http://www.hestara.com/index.html
http://www.summitpacificinc.com/sealodge.html

After staying on the North Shore, we then moved to the South Shore for 3 nights. We stayed in Poipu at the Kuhio Shores in unit 213. Not ON the beach but right on the ocean!
Here is the website: http://www.kuhio-shores.com/

Also here is a link to a map of Kauai so you can get an idea of the North/South Shore and other areas of interest.

Another tip: I recommend buying this book: http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Kauai...d_bxgy_b_img_b
The Ultimate Kauai book is an absolute must! It has everything you could possibly want to know about the island. One of my favorite insider information in the book was the directions on how to get to Secret Beach. This beach is unbelievably beautiful and can be seen from the Kilauea Lighthouse. It is a 15 minute hike to get to the beach and my husband & I wouldn't have known about if it weren't for this book! That is just one tip and there is so much information in these books! This book is also available for the other Hawaiian islands as well if you choose another island.

I absolutely love Kauai and my husband & I are going back this September! We are already counting the days! Check out this condo: http://www.hestara.com/c8.htm This is where we are staying this September. This Sealodge condo is very popular and books up really quickly! We are staying in this condo in September. I really like Hestara...all that is required is $250 to reserve and the remainder of the balance is due 30 days before your trip.

As for a rental car...we used Budget and got a convertible.

You didn't say when you are going on this trip. I have noticed on the hestara website that there are bargain rates since the condos aren't booked which would help if this is a "last minute trip". Since you are flying from LAX, if you don't do a package deal, you should look at flights with Hawaiian Airlines.

I check this board frequently so if you have any more questions just respond to this post and and I'll check back. I love helping with Kauai information! I LOVE Kauai!

Thanks so much for your help. Is Wailua a quiet area or are there things going on. I do not want to be to isolated.
Thanks

<<<or are there things going on>>>

Are you sure Kauai is the right place for you?

mike_b12 Jul 27th, 2010 01:49 PM

yes ,I know it is very calm there!

sf7307 Jul 27th, 2010 03:43 PM

Seriously, I'm just not sure there's anything "going on" in Kauai. Most people who go there go because there ISN'T anything going on!

LittleWing Jul 27th, 2010 03:48 PM

poppycock

sf7307 Jul 27th, 2010 04:11 PM

Care to expound?

LittleWing Jul 27th, 2010 04:22 PM

okiedokie, IMHO there is plenty going on so I disagree with you're above post.
