First time Maui

My husband and I are traveling to Maui (without children) in March. Hoping for feedback on romantic restaurants (great food),entertainment (not Lawrence Welk),and activities (all but skydiving). We are also planning on renting an auto, any suggestions on rental companies. We are staying 6 days.Thank you we appreciate any replies.

I would purchase Maui Revealed from a book store or online. You can go to the publisher's website at www.wizardpub.com.

Puddy, Thank you for your response.

My DH and I are also going in March (without our two darling daughters!) I have read the Maui Revealed book mentioned above - it does have great suggestions. This site's desination info is great to and I love their hotel reviews!
I need to reserve our rental car as well so I would love others information on that too!
I don't think there is any Lawrence Welk type entertainment in Maui (maybe you are thinking of traditional shows that are in Waikiki) Kaanapali has most nightlife including Old Lahaina Luaua and Feast at Lele, Luau at Marriott, Maui Myth and Magic (Cirque du Soleil show) and Warren and Annabelles - another show that MR raves about.
MR also raves about Sarentos in Kihei which also has many postive posts from people here as well as Mama's in Paia which is popular for people on their return from Hana.
What dates are you going and where are you staying?

Restaurants for seafood, Waterfront in Ma'alea, Roy's two locations. Day trip to Lan'ai on Trilogy tour catamaran for whale watching. Day trip around island to Hana and Seven pools. Stop at winery if you go all the way around island. Some rough areas past Hana but if you are adventurous you can do it. Use caution if it's raining on the east side as the roads are narrow and bumpy. Enjoy!

I vote for Humuhumu's (ocean view in the Grand Wailea Resort) and Mama's Fish House for romantic :-X restaurants and suggest arriving ~5:30PM before sunset.

We usually find some kind of special rate for convertible or SUV with Dollar or Alamo. Enjoy your stay in ((R))Paradise !((R)) :S-

Thanks John D and Toms your suggestions well taken. Miscrapper, we are staying at the Maui Prince Resort.

Has anyone ever gone to Spagos for dinner? Rating is excellent from what I've read however I am sure it is reflected in the price. Thanks.

We ate at Spago's in October (as well as Sarento's) and had the macadamia nut crusted salmon, it was very good and you have a nice view with choice of indoor or outdoor seating.

I personally found the polynesian thatched huts overlooking the fish ponds and string duet that ((8))serenaded((8)) us at nearby Humuhumu's to be more romantic :-X and memorable, if you are dining in Wailea.

JohnD - Thanks Humuhumu sounds great. Does anybody have any recommendations for daytrips; catamaran sounds good.

Spago's is my least favorite of the three restaurants at the Four Seasons - I think Ferraro's (Italian) is the best - the outdoor tables put you right over the water - it's just incredibly romantic. I also loved Nick's at the Kea Lani, and Mama's, of course - you don't need reservations if you go for lunch (but the prices aren't any cheaper then, either!) Entertainment - Warren and Annabelle's. Trust me - I am a skeptical New Yorker who feels nauseous at the idea of cheesy "shows" with magicians, comedians, whatever, but we went because we had heard it was so amazing at it was - one of the best parts of our trip.
