First Time
 

We are planning on comming to DC June 18-22. We have never been there and are looking for a nice clean but not too expensive place to stay. It will be me, my wife, and our 2 kids 11 and 14. Any ideas would be very appreciated. Thank you very much..

I got the Hyatt (Capital Hill) for $69 via Priceline. The hotel is walking distance to the Union Station, Capital, Smithsonian, etc. In addition to the great location, it also has an indoor pool (there's an additional charge for pool/spa area). Enjoy!

We just got home from DC. Stayed at the Doubletree Suites on New Hampshire Ave. It was only five minutes to the Foggy Bottom metro. We had a bedroom with two queen beds, a living room with sofa bed, full kitchen and a small bathroom. We all breakfasts and several suppers in the room. Small pool on the roof which the kids (11 & 14) never used. Would definitely say there again. We paid $149 plus $20 parking.

I agree with Pumpy. The Hyatt Capitol Hill is very nice and the location is great. Right across the street is also the Holiday Inn Capitol Hill. I've been there before and hubby stays there weekly on business. I'm just not sure if they have a pool. You would want to check. But the Hyatt is a little nicer than the Holiday Inn. The location of both is great. Walking distance to many things and also to the trains at Union Station that you can take anywhere else you want to go. I took them by myself and felt very comfortable traveling the city.

You might rephrase your message title -- something like "Need hotel advice for Wash.,D.C." and you may get more responses.

I live here, so don't stay in hotels, but alot of people on this board like and recommend the Radisson Barcelo

I stayed with my kids at the Homewood Suites (by Hilton) at 15th and Mass. with my kids for seven days. Very convenient. They serve a full hot breakfast every day and an evening meal Monday to Thursday, all free of charge. That is very nice as it saves looking for a restuarant after a long day of site seeing. Nice, clean two room suites with a kitchenette, a little small but adequate. I have two teenaged girls and we survived. Courteous staff. Four blocks from the Metro station.
i highly recommend it.

I'd recommend the Radison Barcello because of its location and the size of the rooms. Second for location I'd recommend the Marriot. Both of these hotels are in areas where you can walk to restaurants, or just walk around. I've also stayed at the Hilton. You will have to jump on the subway to get anywhere but the Metro stop is right there. I've also stayed at Capital Hill Suites in a room though they do have (of course) suites. That is a great location and you can dine in nearby restaurants.

There is a food court at Union Station where you and the kids can find plenty of food options. If you stay at the Radison Barcello, the kids might enjoy the California Pizza Kitchen in the Dupont Circle area. There is a great family cafeteria atop the Madison building of the Library of Congress. It has a terrific view and great prices.

BTW, you get on the list now for the prize for suggestive title. It reminds me of that one a few months ago, "Quickie in Goergia"

I checked http://www.hotelsdc.com/ (a great site BTW) and see that the Capitol Hill Suites are available for all the nights you need. I highly recommend it: two blocks to the US Capitol and one block to the Capitol South metro. Also has lots of family dining options within a few blocks. I noticed that most hotels did not have all 4 of your nights avail together (it is only a week away!). If you see something else, check back here for feedback. Many places list as "White House" are not close to the WHite House or anything else. Same for the other areas listed.
