First Snow!

Early Tuesday morning as we were leaving home to head down to ABQ, we saw the first snow atop the LaPlata Mountains, outside Durango! It had rained at our house, but at elevation, it was beautiful white snow. It didn't last long, gone by late morning, but there is [hopefully] much more of that to come.

Thanks Deb :D

I needed that. We're sitting here in the SF Bay Area in the hottest weather of the year so far. I think the high in SF yesterday was about 100˚F.

DD#1 lives in Summit Co, CO {elevation 8751 ft} - and already the golf course/country club have altered their hours because of morning Frost!

Barbara Aug 29th, 2009 08:20 PM

I'm sitting in hot San Diego thinking about watching a movie, any movie, that has snow and ice in it. LOL!

When I dropped my daughter at her friend's house in Escondido today the temp was 107F.

Barbara, I was about to post something similar - it was 94 ° in SAN FRANCISCO yesterday and high 90s all over today (we were in the Carmel area today and it was still 96 at 5 o'clock!). Snow? What's that?

"First Snow!"

Oh HELL no! I'm not NEAR ready to give up summer yet!!!

gail Aug 30th, 2009 03:02 AM

How depressing!

AnnMarie_C Aug 30th, 2009 03:51 AM

How pretty! Look forward to the change in season.

gail Aug 30th, 2009 06:25 AM

Perhaps pretty - but in Boston this summer did not start until July this year and it was 54 degrees this AM.

fmpden Aug 30th, 2009 07:13 AM

....... How depressing!...... O' Contrary !!!! Just the opposite. When we lived in the Chicago area -- it was depressing. Gray, overcast, damp, cold, and generally miserable for six months BUT not in Colorado. It is nice to four, distinct seasons. SNIGBRAB is next week and the count down to the first run begins.

LoveItaly Aug 30th, 2009 07:13 AM

Hi Deb, thanks for sharing, I think! We had 106 degrees yesterday and lucky us as it will be a few degrees cooler today, lol.

CAPH52 Aug 30th, 2009 07:36 AM

I'm glad you're excited about it, Debi! And I can understand your wish for much more to come. I also understand how good it sounds to those suffering with the heat.

But I'm in the other camp. We were in Madison, WI yesterday settling our son in to his apartment and I was downright cold in capris and a short sleeved top. I think it was in the high 50s/low 60s all day. By the time we got back to the Chicago 'burbs last night it was in the low 60s here as well. Too damn cold for August!

My daughter's in-laws are visiting from Ireland at the end of September. I hope they're not going to come all this way only to find the same weather they left. Or worse! They waited until September because they didn't want to deal with heat. At the rate we're going, it'll be warmer in Ireland than here!

The one positive thing I have to say about the weather is that at least we haven't had a horrible hot and humid summer. So often that seems to be the case after a bad winter like the last one. I hate having to be cooped up inside with the air on during the summer. We get enough of that in the winter. (Heat instead of air, of course!) Certainly much easier on the electric bills too!

I could use a little snow right now. 116 degrees yesterday in Laughlin and expected to be 109 today here at home.

nytraveler Aug 30th, 2009 09:12 AM

Yes - CO does get it early. I remember flying out to do market research one year in my birthday week (second week of Sept) when it was about 90 in NYC. Luckily I checked with (then) the weather channel. We landed in more than 8 inches of snow - although the next day the temp went up to about 50 and it all melted.

Just another reminder of how large and diverse our country is.

fmpden Aug 30th, 2009 06:32 PM

Caph52, we pulled out of the Chicago area in 1980 and never looked back. You should consider it. Our son has been an engineer in Chicago for the past eight years. Tbe new lights on the Wiggley building is part of his work. We love that area in the summer time BUT ......

starrs Aug 30th, 2009 06:34 PM

Here too!!!

jk

I better get out there sooner than later! :-)

CAPH52 Aug 31st, 2009 05:28 AM

Not likely to happen, fmpden. We moved to the Chicago area (after 9 years in various parts of the eastern US) shortly after you left it 'cause we were both born and raised in Illinois and most of our family is in the state. And then there's a little matter of my husband's job! But, mostly, despite the weather (both summer and winter), we love Chicago!

Very glad you're enjoying Colorado though!

BayouGal Aug 31st, 2009 05:44 AM

Now Deb, you know when you post things like this you just make us all wanna head to your beautiful mountains! ;-)

I can picture it in my mind. Thank you for posting!

BeachGirl247 Aug 31st, 2009 06:04 AM

Hard to believe it's that time already! I bet it was beautiful.

annesherrod Aug 31st, 2009 06:44 AM

We have had such a mild summer - this morning in the 50'!!!

Snow sounds pretty, but I am not ready for that until Christmas!! :)
