fires? I 95 or I 75 through south GA ??
Hi everyone.
We're driving from Cleveland, OH to St Pete, FL tomorrow, Thurs June 7. We can go either 75 or 95 through southern Georgia. I'd prefer to go the less smoky way, we have a young baby. Hoping someone from the area or someone who's driven through very recently can comment on the current situation. Thanks! |
I thought both ways were now open but I-75 near the Fla./Ga. border was the problem area. You might try checking w/AAA or the State Hwy. Patrol in those states.

I heard earlier this week that after the rain we all received from Barry over the weekend that all of the fires were either out or contained 95%. That was on Monday. There should be little or no problem with smoke when you travel through.

Thanks for the tips so far.
Most news reports talk about the fires being pretty much 100% contained. Problem with that for me is, "contained" just means they're not spreading anymore, correct? But if they're still burning away within the wind's reach to the interstate, it could still be miserable and smoky. Sounds like 95 is the safer of the bets. |
We found the Georgia Navigator website useful when we drove down a couple weeks ago. http://www.georgia-navigator.com/maps/georgia
The fires were really bad at that point and this website had closings and delays listed. From the map, both I-75 and I-95 look clear right now. Florida also looks good: http://www.fl511.com/ |
